Look, how badly do you want this surgery?  How badly do you want to get healthy?

You are worried about no candy and having to exercise.  Once you start to get thin, exercise becomes easier and enjoyable.  You are having WLS, which requires you to exercise in order for your "tool" to work properly.

I have had both the band and RNY, and I worked equally hard with both.  RNY has been just amazing.

Are you seriously ready to make the lifestyle changes to get healthy?  This is for life, remember that.

Why did  you have to get both if you work equally hard. If you work wark hard with band you should lose as much as expected with bypass

Because the lapband caused me horrific reflux and had to be taken out.  I hadn't lost that much weight despite my best efforts, too.  So I revised to the RNY, which was the better choice for me.

I am about 10 pounds away from my goal weight.

You are missing the point - surgery doesn't magically make you thin - it's you who makes the food choices, you who decided to exercise, you who wants to live healthy.  Your surgery is a tool to help you along the way.

you can afford to do very little in the beginning with bypass but not with band. You have to start moving with lapband right away if you want to lose.

Willlose - you Will Lose more if you exercise. But we're not talking running 10 miles a day - especially in the beginning. You need to move around and get the body going. You can do simple exercises in the beginning.

Simple exercises: when you park in the shopping center, park in the furthest part and walk to the door; if you need to take an elevator, go up one floor below where you need to be, and walk up a flight; get rid of the remote, and get up and manually change the channel - one you can feel good about doing these move onto walking outside. Then turn the walk into a brisk walk, etc.
Good Luck on your Journey !!

You could lose, i'm sure without exercise, but if you want to keep the weight off, exercise should become a normal part of your life.

14 pounds lost before surgery. My first ticker is when I hit onderland: this was my goal when I started on this journey.  I want to focus on that right now...once I get there I can reevaluate.

My second ticker is my dream goal. Even if I only visit there for a short time, it would be nice to see that number just once.  I am pretty sure I'll need plastics to hit this goal.

It's true that many people lose all their weight with RNY without a bit of exercise BUT no matter if you have a band or RNY you must make a total lifestyle commitment in order to have permanent weight loss results. I feared having loose flabby skin and went into an exercise route immediately - I was out walking the day after I came home from the hospital. If you aren't an exerciser, start slowly but get your body moving. As the weight comes off you will be able to do more and more. You must find something that you like or you will not stick with it. I suggest start now. You want to get your body into the best physical condition you can so you can start immediately. 30 days to a habit...once you exercise for 30 days it will become a daily part of your life. Use your tool wisely. Good luck.
