Dr Ragui Sadek
Does anyone know or have used Dr. Ragui Sadek in Somerset, NJ? Please share your experiences. I will be having the banding procedure. I am 4'11 and 202 lbs. I also have PCOS and have been wondering if I should go with banding or bypass. Dr Sadek is saying the banding is better for me. I am hoping that the banding will help me lose weight especially with the PCOS. I just want a permanent fix to this weight issue (as we all do). Please everyone share your thoughts.
Has anyone had their surgery done at Robert Wood Johnson? What was your experience there?
Thanks!!

He is my doctor at Robert Wood Johnson. He is the current leader for the Robert Wood Johnson Bariatric Program that has recently started. He is an excellent surgeon with plenty of experience and really does care for his patients. The hospital does offer great service as it is the top teaching hospital in the area. I would highly recommend his practice as well as the hospital.
Never heard of him and I am pretty familiar with all the NJ docs -- is he new to the area? Have you checked him out online? How many bands has he done? Don't just blindly go to someone if you haven't checked out their bariatric references. Any surgeon can say he can do it, but you really want one who has at least 300-500 under his belt!

i actually heard about him from my neighbour, he had a lapband done by him and he lost 80 lbs and he had nothing but good things to say about him, he has been in NJ for at least 5 years and i actually researched him and found nothing but good things about him, he was practicing in freehold and now he is leading the program at Robert Wood Johnson University hospital in New Brunswick.
I have chosen Dr.Sadek for my surgery for my wife and I as he was highly recommended by my physician. He has also performed surgery on a good friend of mine. He is a highly skilled surgeon and has great bedside manner. You can't go wrong with Robert Wood Johnson...it is one of the best hospitals in NJ.
Thank you everyone!!! I am so happy to hear all that you have shared. I REALLY like him and he is sooooo good to his patients. For me it was just so hard to believe a DR that is so personable and remembers things about me when I call him. Right now I just need to talk to him again about the surgery I will choose to have. He is recommending Lapband for me.
Smallerdude1--what did you have done by Dr Sadek ? Your wife is having the sleeve done you said--that's the gastric sleeve right? What is her height and weight and should I consider talking to the Dr again about the sleeve. I appreciate your feedback. Also is there a support group you go to at RWJ?
Soooooo many Dr's appointments to go to my God!! With working FT and 2 kids I feel like it's a lot. GI appt then endoscopy, cardiac consult then stress test, pulmonary clearance, chest x-ray, bloodwork, PAT etc.......I want to see the nutritionist again but feel like there is no time.
I know I am the best person along with my Dr who should decide what surgery to have but I appreciate any opinions ANYONE may have and would like to share.
Thanks!

Emma37, to answer your question....my wife has a BMI of 35..she did not want to have an invasive proceudre like the gastric bypass and didn't want an implantable device like the lap band. She went with the sleeve after talking to Dr. Sadek in depth. The sleeve doesn't cause the malabsorption issues like the bypass. Dr. Sadek also said the bypass is better for people with diabetes, which my wife doesn't have.
I agree with you about Dr. Sadek....he really treats you like you are his only patient every time... he does remember every detail about all his patients....I also like the fact that if I have any questions no matter how trivial I can always call him up or send him an email any day or time of the week and he will respond right away...He is all about personalized attention

Dr. Sadek was the assistant surgeon on my team back in 2008 when I chose to have this procedure. However he was the ONLY doctor that I ever saw for follow up care. I never saw my original surgeon again. When the time came to have my Gallbladder removed last May, there was never a question on who I was going to use. There is not one thing negative I can say about Dr. Sadek. I am in the medical field. He is highly professional, great bedside manner, and Im saddened that he left the Freehold area. I will travel to see him should the need arise.
Best of luck to you.
