Hi Everyone!

A newbie here!  After being a "member" here for almost 6 years, I am seriously considering surgery (due to new & serious health issues).  Someone referred me to their Dr. who is no longer with the group she went to (no one knows where he went!) so I am looking for some experienced folks to point me down the path to a GOOD & CARING Dr. who I can TRUST my life with.  I am more for the LapBand because the other surgery just scares the life out of me, although I know several people who have had it done.  So, I am presuming that a Dr. can do both(?).   Preferbly Monmouth county for family reasons.  Any suggestions, good or bad, is welcomed.  Any advice is welcomed also.  I appreciate it.

Blessings to you!

Hi Laura,

I am new to this site and I joined it because I have decided to have weight loss surgery.  I can answer your question.  I believe that the group to which you are referring is endosurgical associates and you are probably speaking about Dr. Sadik no longer being with that practice.  I assure you that the people who are still in that office are more than capable of doing whatever weight loss surgery you want.  I know this because I have worked with them all for several years.  I am a surgical technician at the community hospital where they do a vast number of their cases and I am a member of the bariatric surgery team.  You can look up Dr. Morris Washington and get the address and phone number.  You don't have to commit to anything, just go for a consultation.  I have opted to have the gastric sleeve done because it is the safest of the weightloss procedures. What you should know is that your BMI will determine if you are a candidate for the lap band or not with this group of surgeons( I can't speak for anyone else)  I really think that you should give them a try.  Good luck to you!!!!!!         Minty

Dr. Frank Borao is definitely your best bet in Monmouth County.  He is the Head of Minimally Invasive Surgery at Monmouth Medical and the Director of the Bariatric Center there. He is an excellent surgeon and has about the lowest complication rate in the state of New Jersey for laparoscopic surgery.  He practices out of Monmouth Medical Center and is a real Doctor's doctor.  I know this because I am a doc on staff at Monmouth Medical and whenever the surgical staff need their families operated on they turn to Dr. Borao.  He does lap band and roux en y.
Dr. Washington is also very well known and respected.  My office manager had a lapband with him and lost 100 lbs and is still losing.  One last word.. Be sure you investigate all options open to you including DS and VSG as mentioned above. Good Luck!

Thank you Minty for your post.  I appreciate it!  Yes, I was referring to Dr. Sadek.  The person I know that had him, spoke very highly of him.  I felt pretty comfortable with that so that is where I was going to go.  I did have an appt. for the seminar last night but got a small migraine late in the day so I couldn't go.  I have been to a seminar before, several years ago in North Jersey.  I did not know it depended on your BMI what type of surgery you had!  That is interesting.

Thank you again and I will take what you said to heart.

Have a blessed day!

While they may not be in Monmouth, You won’t get any better than the Doctors at Advanced Laparoscopic Surgeons. Dr. Abkin, Bertha and Iannace are not only the best in their field – but they are very caring. They listen, and they don’t “push" you towards one operation over the other. And their follow-up care is top notch.

For their web site, go to: http://www.advancedlaparoscopicsurgeons.com/

This link will list most of the Surgeons in NJ

http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/NJ/a,doclisting/type,46/

MORE INFO THEN YOU REQUESTED. You will need to have a psych evaluation and see a nutritionist.

Unless you have a particular history that dictates a Psychiatrist, a Psychologist will be accepted.

I suggest contacting Michael L. Sakowitz, Ph.D. is a psychologist (NJ 35SI00148700) and member of ObesityHelp's Mental Health Board

He may be far from you, but it’s worth the trip.

If not: check the following

Psychologists           http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/NJ/a,list/type,2/

Good Luck on your Journey !!

Hi Laura,

I had my Lap Band done by Dr. Washington, but all my follow ups were with Dr. Sadek.  I recently had my Gall Bladder removed by Dr. Sadek, and was quite surprised to learn that he was no longer with the practice.  Through the grapevine, I heard he was opening his own office locally although not in Monmouth County.  If you want you can contact me.

I was very pleased with Dr. Washington, and I love his staff.  They have been very very accomodating whenever I need anything.

Hi Laura,
In answer to your question the reason my office manager went to Dr. Washington is that she was already planning surgery and was a patient of his at the time I hired her.  Dr. Borao is out of network, but if you have out of network benefits as part of your insurance plan he will accept what the insurance pays.  If you do not have out of network benefits Dr. Binenbaum accepts insurance (they are partners).  Dr. Borao works with Binnenbaum in the OR so most likely even if you had Dr. Binnenbaum Dr. Borao would be in on your surgery as well.  As I said before Dr. Washington is also a very good option.

I myself was not happy with Dr. Washington's staff. I found them to be uncaring and elusive. I did my surgery with Dr. Macura at Maimonedies in Brooklyn. Though an hour away I found it worth the trip. The entire staff is caring and attentive.

Laura,

I run a support group and if you would like to talk then send me a message and I can tell you all the ins and outs of it all. I have run support groups of one kind or another for over 15 years and have seen well over 100 people through surgery. Lets talk and maybe I can give you some advice.
