Question About Body Image
I had my RNY at the end of January and have lost 88 pounds so far. I went from a size 20 pants to a size 10, and a 22/24 shirt to a 12 or 14...So my question is why do I still see myself as fat? How long did it take you to recognize the person in the mirror? I only have another 22 pounds to go but feel like I need to lose another 40 or 50.
Anyone else feel like this???

It does take a while for your head to catch up to your body. I have lost 175 pounds and still some days see myself as the 374 pound woman I was. I still lack self confidence in some situations. But...it will get better and you will start to enjoy your new body.
Congratulations on your weight loss.

Hi Amy.... hang in there...it does take a while for the brain to catch up... I found myself for years entering the wrong side of Fashion Bug. I still look at clothes and say... thats not going to fit me!!
Dont fret...with more time in your new body, you will become better adjusted and find the self image looking back at you that is just right!
Enjoy your weight loss..keep up the good job!!!

You may never see what others see...I am almost 3 years out and even my bariatric friends tell me i'm tiny....there is no way I see a tiny person in the mirror. I see a thinner person but never a tiny person or even a "normal" sized person. the only way i know is by the smaller clothes. you are doing so well and as long as you feel good, that's all that matters!
Hi Amy,
Your post is very relevant for all. It does take time and it takes work.
Remeber many obese folks never look at themselves. Many tell me that they no not own a full length mirror. The denial is part of the problem.
Please take the time to look at yourself. Full lenth, naked in the mirror. Relearn who you are not just physicially buy emotionally as well.
I often suggest that patients go to the store and try on lots and lots of clothes. Many styles, many colors. Experiment with your new body you worked hard for it, learn to enjoy it.
