First Fill

Hi all,

I'm off for my first fill this morning. Not quite sure what to expect but not anxious about it either. Just hoping it gives me some restriction so I can get back on the band wagon and start losing weight again instead of yo yoing between 3 or 4 lbs.

Just wanted to share my day.

Take care,
Frogger

Well I survived my first fill. Actually it was no big deal at all. Dr. I. from ALS did it. It was the first time I met him but he is just as nice and patient as Dr. A. and Dr. B. Once numbed he put in about 5cc and had me drink water. That was obviously too much so he then took it all out and had me drink the barium. He then started putting in more and taking out and putting in et****il he felt the barium was going down at a decent rate yet not free flowing right through the band. The whole time in the x-ray room was maybe 10 minutes.

The only downside was that they apparently schedule many people (6-8) at the same time so even though I had an 8:30 a.m. appt. I didn't get out of the hospital until about 10 a.m.

So now I'm on clear liquids for 24 hrs. then have to call the office and talk to Nino and hopefully mushy for lunch tomorrow and regular dinner tomorrow night.

I'm just hoping there is some restriction there. I ended up with 3.8 cc's being put in so hopefully I'll see a change and start the weight coming off once again.

Awesome news!!!!

Ok so while he's having you drink water and barium, is the needle still stuck in the port??? Or does he stick you again???

I'm scared to death!!! I'd be put to sleep if I could...LOL

Kimi,

No the needle is in the port the whole time until he has it at the level he is comfortable with.

Stacey - I thought it was a lot too for a first fill but I guess if they get it right the first time it eliminates the need for going back too many more times.

I'll let you know how I make out - so far I've been drinking liquids all day without a problem.

Kimi don't be scared, it doesn't hurt!  I've had 4 fills and 2 tiny unfills (my port also flipped which makes it challenging to find it!) and it's really no big deal.

Don't be scared - really - I am the biggest baby I know - the needle stays there the entire time - I couldn't look at it.

My first fill with Dr. B was 4.1 and the next was 1.8 -  it was too much and I didn't realize it was too much for me.   I don't know that the aggressive fills eliminate the need for more fills or not.  I didn't have enough fills to know one way or the other.  My band was empty more than it was filled.

I had the 10cc Lap Band.
