NJ Support Group listing: As of June 2009

Hey gang,

 

One of the frequently asked questions is where to find a support group? I am trying to go over past postings, to come up with a list of support groups and when they meet. Eventually I would like to post a listing of all support groups through out our fine state - this way it would be convenient for everyone.

 

That’s why I need your help. Can you please tell me which support groups you know of, location, the day and/or time the classes are held, if they are open to “everyone" or to just patience’s of specific doctors, free or fee, County, contact information?

Weight Loss Surgery Support Group I - meet the second Wednesday of every month, 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., and is for patients who have had bariatric surgery less than one year ago.

 

Gastric Band Surgery Support Group meet the third Wednesday of every month, 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Weight Loss Surgery Support Group II - meet the fourth Wednesday of every month, 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., and is for patients who have had bariatric surgery more than one year ago.

Thank you.  This is very helpful.  One question.  Why is there no information for Somerset county?  Do no support groups exist here or is it simply a question of gathering the information?

If there are support groups there, I am not aware of them. As you can imagine it would be impossible to research and/or go to all support groups, that's why I rely on readers to provide me with the information.

Thank you so much for posting this.  I was one of the ones looking for groups actually.  After my pre-admission stuff the other day, I had a wonderful meeting with an Hollilstic nurse, and she gave me some support group info for my hospital.  Here it is, if you'd like to include it:

Just wanted to clarify...Dr. JB's group at the Bariatric Center in Plainfield is in Union County, not Essex County.

Also, I run the group that meets at the RWJ Fitness Center in Union county, Scotch Plains...we are called First Saturday Support. It's a peer to peer support group that was formed in March of 07. For the months of July and Sept. we will be meeting on the second Saturday. Please email me for further info, do not call RWJ as they really have no information about the group. [email protected]. Next meeting is July 11. Hope many of you can attend - we are a warm and friendly group. It would be helpful if you could RSVP so there are enough chairs and handouts for all. Thanks!

There are non in Hunterdon County that I know of...but I would LOVE to start one!  If anyone is interested, let me know.

South Jersey, Cumberland County has 2 meetings.  They are at the Fitness Connection across from South Jersey Regional Medical Center.  The 2nd Wednesday of the month is the meeting for post op people and the 4th Wednesday is for pre op and early on people.  The meetings are run by Dr. Pasupathy and Dr. Iqubal.  They are fantastic.!!  Meetings start at 7pm run about and hour and a half.  Good Luck!!!
