Got a tentative date!!! Nervous!!!
Well...I have a tentative date of July 13th. Of course, pending approval from insurance company.
I had my visit with the nutritionist today and I am now more nervous than before. She went over the pre-op diet and the diet after surgery. So much to sink in. When on the clear liquid diet...do you drink it all day or do you have to stick to 3 times a day? Says I have to drink Isopure...what if I don't like it? Is there anything else? When on soft diet...is this 3 times a day? So many more questions. I got no answers from her today. However, I did hear all about her pending trip to Iceland. :-(
Oh well...just venting...excited and nervous all at the same time!
As I always like to start these, make sure you follow your Doctor's guidelines. They have the experience and have developed a plan that they deem works well for their patients.
With that said - let me see if I can answer you questions using MY EXPERIENCES.
Regarding "Clear Liquid": No matter what stage you're in, you need to drink at least 64 ounces of fluid (water). This will be for the rest of your life. In addition to the 64 ounces, you will need to have "broth" (low fat/fat free/low sodium/no sodium) to help maintain yourself. You should try having these additional "broth" 3 times a day, like these were your meals. However don't starve yourself. It's only broth, and it should not be fating, so if hungry have a little more. AGAIN ASK YOUR DOCTOR before taking my advice.
While Isoprue is suggested, I would imagine you could try something else if you didn't like it. AGAIN ASK YOUR DOCTOR before taking my advice.
Soft diet is 3 times a day along with your 64 ounces of fluid.
Here is an example of how to follow the diet
06:00 a.m. - breakfast (broth during liquid / oatmeal during soft diet)
09:00 a.m. - protein drink
12:00 p.m. - lunch (broth during liquid / cream soup during soft diet)
03:00 p.m. - protein drink
06:00 p.m. - dinner (broth during liquid / cream soup during soft diet)
times and food variety will vary. AGAIN ASK YOUR DOCTOR before taking my advice.

“Nothing I will ever eat will give me the feeling I get as when I lose weight” The views expressed are based on my own experiences - and should NOT BE FOLLOWED IN LIEU OF DOCTOR’S ADVICE/INSTRUCTIONS. Only your Doctor knows your condition, and make sure you talk to them before making any changes to your diet
I was just banded on the 19th...onto full liquids now. I have two 8oz protein shakes a day. Not sure about the Isopure, that may be YOUR Doctor recommendation.
Good luck on your journey....so excited for you!!!
