May 19th...my new birthday!!!!

Well I got the call I've been waiting for this morning!!!!  It looks like my surgery date will be May 19th. I have a pre-op class set up for Friday and can't wait to find out the scoop on what I need to do pre-op.

I'm sooo excited to be having this surgery and feel so blessed to have an awesome surgeon like Dr. Abkin preforming it. Everyone in his office is amazing, but special high 5 to my girl, Jessica, she rocks!!!!

Kimi - I'm so happy that this finally all went through for you and you are set. The pre op class is a breeze - mostly filling out paper work. The pre op instructions are easy and painless too. Good luck - I'll be thinking about you!!

Thanks love!!!  I can't wait to get the scoop from the pre-op class...is it really 3 hours? When will I find out what time to be there in the morning of surgery?

YAY!  Good deal Kimi!!  The pre-op class was good - and there is nothing that you need to do pre-op except make sure you have a protein shake you LOVE, have all your vites and, lastly, do the dreaded "cleanse".  Clear liquids the day before while you are doing the cleanse - so make sure you enjoy your last meal the night before!

Stock your house with lots of broth and SF popsicles & jello.

The recovery is nothing - just soreness from where your port will be (like you did too many crunches).

If you have any questions, let me know - I had the band (and had it taken out).

I have found a protein shake I love THANK GOD!!!! I'm all ready...just waiting for the 19th!!!

I got banded in June last year, and  I had it taken out in March because I had horrible reflux from it.  I had the reflux before, but it got worse everytime I got a fill.  I had a fill in October and my reflux started getting worse.  I had another fill in December - and it just was so bad.  

I was too tight and was puking all the time, and my reflux was awful - I got completely unfilled in January, tried another fill in February and the reflux was back before I left the hospital.  I went back to the office the next day for another unfill and then Dr. Bertha said the only way to cure it was to take it out.

And I am so lucky my  insurance covered everything!!  I just had the RNY done on April 6th.

And that's my story.  A friend of mine also had reflux before she was banded, and hers went away instantly - mine got worse - there is no way of knowing if that will happen to you or not.
