My personal opinion is if you have 100 lbs or more to lose, then go with RNY.  I had lap band first and then revised to RNY.  Many troubles with the band.  Of course common sense tells you that if the lap band does not work out, you can always revise to RNY.  However, in my experience the weight comes off much more slowly and stalls with revision.  If I could do it all over again, I would have started with RNY.  Hope that helps your husband make a decision.

I got my band in the beginning of march.  February 1st I weighed 265  I lost about 10 pounds before surgery.  Now I weight 238 after 4 weeks.
Good Luck with your decision

I would say from what I've read on the boards that lapband weight loss is about half as fast
as gastric bypass.  However, the mortality rate nationwide for gastric bypass is 1/200 and that is why, even tho I had the weight for the gb, I went with lapband.

Good luck to your husband,
