Vomitting due to Stomach Virus

Has anyone had the stomach bug since getting banded?  Are there any side effects or issue to the band if you are vomitting due to a virus?

Dr. Bertha told me that I would be OK.....I had two very BAD stomach viruses while I was banded and called the office both times and they said it would be OK.  Mind you, I throw up forcefully!

I also was vomiting about 10 times a day for a month due to being tight.  I just got my band removed last week due to severe reflux issues.  My band was in perfect position throughout all that - I had last seen it about 6 weeks before it was removed (at a fill).

Don't worry about it - call them in the AM to confirm that; but honestly, you will be OK

ETA:  There are both a LAP BAND and a REALIZE BAND forum, too - this forum is kinda dead sometimes.....you will faster replies on those - and, of the two, the LAP BAND is more active....Just so you know

 Have you had your surgery done yet? If so how was it? My brother went with Dr Bertha ,he had RNY done Dec 06 and lost 230 pounds.He loved his doctor even after 2 years if he has a ? he calls there and they help him...

Kimi, my doctor said it won't hurt you if you vomit once or twice due to a virus but he gave me a script for an anti-nausea suppository to keep in the house in case it gets bad.  They say you increase your chances of having a band slip if you vomit too much but I think if you're not vomiting on a regular basis a bug shouldn't hurt it.

Definitely call them and see.  I went to Abkin and Bertha's support group at St. Peters tonight for the first time (my friend has bypass there) and I really liked it.  There are a lot of newly banded people, you should come check it out.

Thanks to all for their posts, I have not been banded as yet.  Have to do my 6 month supervised diet first, so I'm looking at summer.  My question was for a friend who was banded and is going thru the stomach virus.

Hey Kimi,

Dr. Bertha told me the same thing. That "normal" vomiting due to illness is not an issue with the band at all.
