Hi Everyone,

How are you all doing? I have all my clearence letters ready and am seeing the surgeon on 3/11,I think he gives me a date and then puts it all into the insurance company for approval, well I have a few questions for everyone. I bought chewable vitamins from BariatricEating.com,there the Bariatric Advantage ones,I hate them. They taste yucky to me and this is before the suregry, everything taste different after surgery right? So does anybody know a different good tasting vitamin.? Also after surgery can I drink club soda or is that out too? I get bad leg cramps and Im starting to work out now,my chiropractor told me to drink club soda or seltzer water,it has something that starts with a Q that helps the leg cramps,So can I drink seltzer water or club soda?  One more , if I have a period when I go for my surgery can I wear a tampon under anesthesia or should I wear a kotex? Thanks so much and I can't wait to be on the loser side with you all...

I don't recall the taste of the chewables. but at 4 yrs out I am using regular vitamins now.
The Soda or carbonation is a lifetime to my understanding. if you are having RNY.. you probably like my won't be able to drink much of it even if you try as the smaller pouch will fill very fast from the carbonation.. I drink some flat gingerale sometimes. but not often...
You are going to me catherized so the tampon is NO...

Good luck ..

keep us posted on your progress.

I use either chewable: Nature's Plus (pineapple) or Centrum (orange) Multi-vitamin; Caltrate Chewable 600-D Plus (assorted fruit flavors), and a B12 (cheapo brand).

Sorry to break the news, but usually ALL CARBONATE DRINK are OUT !! - however talk to your Doctor about this. I hear some Doctors allow it - depending on which type of operation you have.

As for the other stuff .. errr … hmmmmm.. can’t help you there …

Good Luck on your Journey !!

Tom

Hi, I'm to be banded on May 22nd,so I'm not an authority. But I have read alot waiting the six months for the surgery. Any carbonation is out...why risk stretching your pouch of having it bubble up and have to spit it out. doesn't seem worth it. I'm sure your chiro.can give you other things to try for your leg cramps....some say more potassium. The other thing, I would check with the nurse or nurses at the hospital, the catheter goes in your Urethra and your tampon goes in your vagina. I have worn one for surgery. But ask, you won't be the first.  Good Luck to you.

I was expecting my period.  they told me you can't wear either during surgery.  They place absorbent pads under you.  But it happens all the time they said.  Not to worry.

I use the centrum orange chewable.  It is ok, not great.  But I like that it is available in the supermarket.

I use the CVS brand chewables; they're not bad, and they're a lot cheaper than others. I buy them when they're buy one-get one free.

Denise, the Q is probably Quinine, you can find it in Tonic Water, which is not carbonated.  Carbonation can stretch out the pouch so you should avoid it.  I buy Liquid Life vitamin at Sams Club, it's not too bad tasting, better than the chewables.

Not sure about the tampon, ask your surgeon or NP.
