Stacey,

As for "working out" I was back doing "small things" in about 2-3 weeks. First I would suggest walking. Then after a few days (maybe a week) try something a little more vigorous, and use light weights.

I am a firm believer in starting off small, then working my way back up. Example, recently I decided to “up my workout" and use the exercise bike that I have at home - which has been collecting dust. Last Monday I did only 5 minutes. The next day I did 6 minutes. The following day 7 - and so on. As of yesterday, I am doing 15 minutes and have increased the intensity level.

I work out this way (A) make sure I didn’t over due it (B) I didn’t want to be too sore the next day - then I wouldn’t want to do it any longer (C) I didn’t want to get discouraged by choosing a “longer period" and not being able to do it.

Keep up with the grace progress.

Good Luck on your Journey !!

Tom

I hear ya! My first 4 days or so out of surgery, I actually slept on the recliner in the living room. I could get up a lot easier, and I found that laying completely flat was verrrrry uncomfortable. Maybe that would help! Also remember to take your pain meds for a couple of weeks. I only ever took half a dose, but took them for 2- 2.5 weeks. I stopped for a couple days at about one week out and I started having esophogus spasms-- very weird and not fun (not necessarily painful, so don't worry). So your pain meds will def. help you out!
