Hi Kimi,

I too was at the St. Peter's seminar last week. I have my consultation with Dr. Bertha this Wednesday the 18th. I agree they gave a lot of information (much of which I already had due to the extensive research I've done) and the presentation was very professional. Luckily I have Oxford insurance so they are not quite as sticky as Cigna is. I just hope the process is smooth from here on in and that I am successful in the outcome.

Good luck to you.

Ok Frogger...which person were you in the room last week???

Good for you that you have an insurance company that isn't so strict.  I can't wait to hear how everything went on the 18th!!!  Make sure you keep us posted!!!

Did you chose Dr. Bertha for any particular reason????

Take care...

Hi Kimi,

I was sitting in the middle on the left side of the room facing the stage. I asked the question of what the difference was between the LapBand system and the Realize Band.

I chose Dr. Bertha because he did my husband's RNY two years ago and he seems like a straight forward type of guy.

I will definitely keep you posted. Did you schedule your psych eval and nutristionist meeting yet? I was originally told that they would be completed at the same time as the initial consultation but have since found out that not to be true. I called the Kingley people that ALS recommended but the scheduling person won't be in until tomorrow so I will have to wait until then to make the appointments.

I also had the blood work and breathing test done that they gave me the forms for on Thursday night.

Good luck with your journey.

Frogger....
Hmmmm I think I remember you were you in the front row???  Short dark hair??  I was on the left side facing the stage but closest to the wall...second row. LOL  This is too funny!!!

I went to my family Doc this morning and she is going to give me the necesssary forms to fill out that my insurance requires.  Hopefully they will what the ins co. wants.  I told her everything that Jessica told us that night regarding insurance.

Kingley had called me over the weekend and I just called them back.  I spoke with Jessica, she was wonderful.  The appt to have back to back psych and nut evals will be 3 hours she told me.  The cost for me would be $250.00 for the psych and my specialist copay for nut dr.  I'm looking at having them both done on March 7th.  They need the $250.00 via credit card to hold the appt and they you pay cash or check at the appt.

I did receive the paperwork for the blood work while at the seminar, I haven't had that done yet as my Doc said they might expire and some insurances won't pay to have them done again, so I'm going to speak with Dr. Abkin about when I should do them.

This is sooo exciting that we could be going thru this together!!!!  Keep me posted on your process, please feel free to email me directly if you want.

Take care...

Hey Kimi,

Actually I believe I was in the third row which would put you right in front of me. Were you with a grey haired man? That's great that you doctor will help you out to get past insurance faster.

I just spoke to Jessica at Kingley too. I am having my psych eval and nutrition meeting this coming Saturday in their Piscataway office. I'm glad everything is getting all done relatively close to each other.

I agree that it is nice to have someone going through the process with you at the same time. Have you decided which surgery you are going to have? I am going to do the lap band but can't decide between the LapBand System and the Realize Band.

I will definitely keep you posted on my progress. Please do the same and you are welcome to email me directly whenever as well.

Take care,
Frogger

Hi Frogger,
Hmmm now I'm confused.  No I was with a bald man, who had had Dr. Abkin do his Realize Band surgery a year ago.  He was actually supposed to speak but time did not allow.

I'm going to have the Realize Band done, from the research I've done, I like what I hear about that band.

Glad you are having your psych and nut done this weekend.  I'm going to make a post on the forum asking of anyone using Kingley and if they received a reimbursement back from them.  I don't like to second guess things but unfortunately I've learned the hard way you have to some times.

When do you see Dr Bertha??  What insurance do you have?  I have Cigna.

Have a good day..

Hi Kimi,

I actually have my appointment wiht Dr. Bertha in about 2 hours. I have Oxford but from what I understand based on my husband's experience I will have to pay the $250.00 out of pocket for the psych eval and just my copay for the nutritionist.

What made you choose the Realize Band over the LapBand? Just curious.

I'll let you know how I make out wih Bertha today.

Take care,
Frogger
