Hello Heather!!!
Sooo glad to speak to you..
How are you feeling?? When did the journey start for you? Did he give you specific meal plans? How long does he like you on liquids, Clear, then full? When do you go for a first fill? Does he do his fills under a floroscope?? My God I;m really picking your brain, but your the first one I know who has had it by him at SOCH. How long were you in the hospital? ANYTHING and EVERYTHING you could tell me would be great!!! Hope your feeling well. Can't wait to hear from you. My neighbor across the street is having it done by Dr. Reich too. I just love him and the office staff are great!!! Her's is in april, mine's scheduled for May22nd. I can"t wait!!!

LOL - it's fine Susan!  I'm only 4 days post-op so I don't know all the answers to your questions yet but I'll keep you posted!

I had surgery Thurs morning around 10am.  I got to my room around 2 (I think!).  You will have a PCA pump with pain medication  - I didn't have one because they only have Morphine and I have severe vomiting from it.  I had medication but I had to call for it.  Nothing to drink the 1st night.  You can swab your mouth but that's about it.  The next morning I had to do a swallow test in radiology to make sure there were no leaks.  They brought me a tray of liquids and then I went home.  I think I was released by noon.

I am on clear liquids and protein shakes.  I did make puree out of veg soup tonight though!  It's going great.  I'm going back to work Wednesday and I have my post op visit on Friday.  I think my 1st fill will be in about 6 weeks.

Hope that gives you a little info!

Soo glad your feeling well... Hope I didn;t scare you with all my Questions..I did sound a little manic..lol. Did he tell you what shakes he wants you on?If not which kind did you choose? Do you have to drink a certain amount of them a day? A puree of soup? thats ok? it;s just I guess I don't understand what clear is....lol  How much are you supposed to drink as your meal? How many ounces can you hold at one time?? lol There I go again. I hope your not in any pain..Do you have someone helping you? I'm 54 with grown children, who no longer live at home. I have a great hubby who is very supportive. I am not telling my children, because I'm not sure what their reaction would be and I have lost this weight sooo many times before,I feel they would tell me I was taking the easy way out. You and I both know this is not easy. I think they would say ..'You did it before, you can do it again'. It's just that it always comes back and with friends!!! lol Take care of yourself.. I will be following your journey with you.. rest up.

I've been checking out that board too!

"Clear" liquids are - broth, decaf tea, water, sugar free beverages (non carbonated), jello

I am 37 with a 7yr old and hubby at home.  I'm actually a nurse across the hall from Dr. Reichs office.  Next time you're there tell Tina to get me and I'll come over and meet you.

My hubby had gastric bypass 2 yrs ago in AC with Dr. Onopachenko.  He did great.  He's down about 130lbs now with no complications.

Do you live on the island or mainland?  Do you work?  Now I'm the one with all the questions!!!!  LOL

My advice is to start finding a protein powder that you like now so you get used to it.  I bought the Unjury that they recommend.  I actually like it.  I got the Vanilla and Chocolate.  Pre surg I made smoothies with it and frozen fruit.  They were so yummy that my little guy was asking for them!

"Talk" to you soon!

Hi Heather,
Yes I live on the island, just a little Cape Cod,not a big McMansion, lol. I have to see the new Nut, Ginger on the 23rd. I was just in the bldg. the other week because my Rheumy, Dr. DeSantis is on that floor too. I did hear that about the protein shake Unjury, that it was pretty good. I think you can get a good deal on them at Costco, I read that on these boards.
Dr. De Santis is moving though, she's going to be in the Stafford Orthopedics office around March. But I will ask about you when I come in to see Ginger. No I longer work, I was a hairstylist for ALOT of years and my body started falling apart, Carpel Tunnel Surgery on both hands,8yrs ago then I had left hip replacement five years ago and then last May I had Cervical Dysection with fusion. I have disc disease in my whole back and no longer can hold down a job, I also have Rheumatoid Arthritus and Fibromyalgia.........but I have a very good sense of humor and try not to dwell on my illems.  Thank you for getting back to me with all my crazy questions..Are you feeling ok?  Talk to you soon,
