Hello Everyone in NJ !
I had lap band surgery on October 31, 2008. Wow ! What a roller coaster ride I have been on.
I had a very frightening, painful experience happen to me last night.
January 14th I had my third fill which brought me up to 7ccs. I followed the "rules" for the first couple of days as required. Then, on the third day, yesterday, I got Chinese food. I took tiny bites of a few things, amongst them an eggroll. Apparently, I forgot, yes, forgot, to chew and chew and chew and I swallowed my food too quickly. OH MY GOD !!!! Something got stuck - BIG TIME - ! For the next 12 hours I suffered terribly. I called my doctor, well my daughter did, I was leaning over the toilet, and he told me to drink water in large gulps until the stuck food either went down or came up. In 12 hours, neither one of those two things happened. My throat was sore from vomiting water over and over and over. I was positive that I would have to go to the doctor today (which is 2 hrs. away) and have my fill removed so that the food could pass through. To my amazement and surprise, at some point I fell asleep and when I awoke, part of the food had gone through ! I am still sore and I can only take in small, tiny amounts of water at a time but, I am definitely "on the mend".
Whew ! I said all of that to say this ~ does anyone out there know of a weekly, etc. support group that I can go to for people who have the lap band? I live in Toms River, NJ. I think I could use the support and help through this journey I have chosen. I don't regret for one second getting the lap band but I know that I have ALOT to learn !
Thanks so very much for any information you can send my way.

Cindy

It's so funny you should say that about your husband... I just got into a heated argument with my 27 year old daughter who is reprimanding me for "not following the rules" ! Granted she had to watch me suffer all night but...ugh ! I think it's time for her to move out ! lol ! lol !
I am from North Jersey originally. My husband and I are from Hawthorne, NJ. We moved down to Toms River about l9 years ago. I had my surgery done in North Jersey at Hackensack Hospital.
Thanks for your reply and support, you made me laugh !

Hi Cindy,
I had a dreaded stuck moment about 5 weeks out. Granted, mine only last about 45 minutes, but for that 45 minutes, I felt like I was going to die!!! I can't imagine 12 hours. I am glad to hear it finally moved!!!!
I had my surgery in Hackensack too. Who was your surgeon? Mine was Dr. Ewing.

Hello !
Thanks for your reply to my post.
I don't ever want to go through that again! I am scared to death that I'll get into "everyday living" and forget to chew thoroughly again. I actually called my husband at work and begged him to come home so he could hold me upside down by my feet so that the food could slide up my throat and then I could make myself throw it up. He, of course, could not leave work and he told me to hang myself off the bed, which I did already - didn't work. AGONY is the only word that I could use to describe that horrible, horrible experience.
How horrible for you that you had that experience after only five weeks out ! Ouch !
I go to Dr. Trevidi on Prospect Avenue in Hackensack. He is part of Advanced Laparoscopic Associates.
When did you have your surgery?

Hi Cindy,
I do know of a support group that meets in Lakewood at Kimball Medical, do you know where that is. I believe they meet the 3rd monday of every month. I used to go and then thought I didnt need it anymore, big mistake! The support was good, it was a mixed group of lapband and gastric bypass. If you need more onfo contact me and I will look up the group leader who could fill you in. Good luck to you and feel free to contact me for support anytime, I live about 15 minutes north of you.
Denise
By the way who was your Dr?
