Still hungry

Hi,all. First time poster, so if this has been addressed before, just point me in the right direction to find answers. I had my gastgric bypass surgery this past Friday. It was laproscopic, no problems, and I came home yesterday on clear liquids. Problem is, I'm  so "mouth hungry," that all I'm thinking about is food!  Is that normal?  Also, every time i take a drink, I get a pain in my chest--more like a tightness, so I'm assuming that's the "full" feeling? When will I stop feeling hungry?

The drinking pain is more likely trapped air from drinking too fast.I realized very fast that I didn't know how to "sip" or take tiny bites.I had to cut my food like you would for a baby. The drinking improved but if I am thirsty & try to gulp I still get that pain.As for the head hunger find things to do to keep your mind of of food.I am 13 months out & never feel hungry but battle head hunger alot.I never realized what a crutch food was & would still be had I not chosen this.I am so grateful I did.

Thanks for the tips. Thought I was sipping slowly, but will slow it down even more to see if that helps with the discomfort. I am truly amazed at how much food dominated my thought process and life... virytually everything I did had a food component of some kind attached to it. This is going to tkae some real adjusting, I can see.

This is going to sound silly but till you are feeling comfortable sip from a shot glass..
the amount will be smaller and there will less chance of you  overdoing it..

Oh, hey, thanks for the tip. I actually sent my hubby to Wal-Mart for a sippy cup from the baby dept and that is working really well. I've gotten down 8 oz of chicken broth, 8 oz of decaf tea, and a sugar free jello so far today. My headache is gone and my gut doesn't feel so achy. Still thinking about food a lot tho...tho I don't actually feel hungry. So I guess I'm on the right track. Thanks again!

I'm glad you made it through ok....as for the hunger and lack of full feeling....that may or may not change....personally I'm 11 months out and get hungry every couple hours and very rarely feel full...thats how its been since the beginning....i'm not expecting it to change but you never know....bascially you will just have to know when to stop eating....measure your food and stop when you've eaten your 4 ounces...in no time you'll be able to eyeball it...further down the road when you're at goal you'll be able to eat more...but take it easy for now...

As for the drinking...sip sip sip...that too may change...I can down a 32oz powerade zero in about 10 mins no problem now.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the advice, Adam. The drinking has gotten easier. I got thru sipping 8 oz of H2O this morning in about 10 mins., so that made me feel good. I have a feeling that I will always have this mouth hunger, since I was a thumbsucker as a kid and a smoker for about 40 years--kind of an oral thing, I'm thinking . :o)  Anyhow, it's so great to be able to connect with people who have been there. Thanks again.

Oh God,

Isn't that the worse feeling. I remember when i came home from the hospital, i would sit in front of the TV and obsess about food. I would count (literally) all the food commercials. All i would think was "what did i do to myself?". The good thing is that it gets better and better. You can do it, trust me.

Much love, Good Luck and welcome to the LOSERS BENCH!!!

Thank you so much for this ... that's exactly how I am feeling. This morning I had my 4 oz of liquid protein and 4 oz of diet cranberry juice and 2 Flinstones and 1 chewable calcium for breakfast and wondered how am I gonna manage all of this when I am out of the liquid and puree stages and have to juggle liquids and not drinking and eating and exercise and the rest of my life... so I made myself a schedule. I have no support here at home (my husband suffers from a number of chronic and debilitating condiitons) so I figure if I have a schedule, then I'll be in control of what I should be doing for me.

Thank you for the love and encouragement, Miriam. It means alot.
