I feel like I got "FIRED" by my Therapist!

OK, so I wasn't sure about going to a therapist BUT my company offers the benefit and I figured "Why not try it?".  I'm just over a year out from surgery and the holidays are coming and, as much as I would like NOT to have any bad habits, I've picked up a few.

I was hoping a therapist might help me find out either WHY I picked them up or HOW to control or get rid of them.

What I could not believe was that after waiting SEVERAL MONTHS to get an appointment and  just 2 visits, I was basically told "It seems you know what you have to do, now you just have to do it!"  WOW!!!!!!!!!  Was I shocked!  I walked out shaking my head to say the least!

I was not sure what to expect going in the first day but, if I had any expectation, it would probably have been the opposite...... that I would be "strung along" for many appointments whether I needed them or not.   I never expected just 2 visits and to be told I didn't need to come back AND feeling no better than when I went in for the first visit!

Many of you are probably thinking I went to someone without bariatric experience and they didn't know what to do - NOPE - I specifically went to an office where I knew they were experienced.

I guess I'm still a bit bewildered about the whole situation and needed to "vent" a bit!  I think some people benefit from therapy but I guess I'm not one of them!

Thanks for listening!  I think I will just stick with our support groups & get togethers etc - I got much more help and guidance in those than in my two therapist visits!

Here's to US & Helping ourselves!!!

Thanks!

wow thats unusual.  i guess you are just more together than you thought, but it must have been strange to be told good bye like that.

then again, helping ourselves is probably the bottom line for all of us in the long run.

be safe and well and happy turkey next week, jacki

Vicki,

This does sound strange, but who knows. Maybe (as Jacki said) you are better then you are giving yourself credit for.

Also (as we all know) there are some Doctors who are better then others. So, my only other advice - look into another one. Maybe some of the fine folks on the board can suggest a very good one.

Good luck !! And enjoy the holidays !!
Good Luck on your Journey !!

Tom

Thanks Tom!   This whole journey we are on can be very strange at times - just when you figure it out - something changes!  (Good thing most of the time it's for the better!)

Thanks & Happy Holidays to you too!

I am a non believer in therapy.....but of late I have been thinking that I have a few issues many really)  and probably need to get an unbiased opinion/help, in which case going to see a therapist would be the thing to do.......but with this post I am starting to believe that it is just quackery......however, I do understand that some people swear by their therapist, that they wouldn't be who they are without him /her.......

How do you know a good therapist?
I have been to see a therapist/psychologist and she did not help me. I found that I kept telling her what she wanted to hear.....it was really clever game.....I quit after abouut the 5th visit..the game was rather expensive...

Can anyone recommend a really great therapist in the Bergen county....with bariatric experience and takes oxford?

Hi Angela

I wasn't sure how I felt about them - never even gave one a thought before.  I just thought it might help and couldn't really hurt.  But this experience really left me with a bad experience!

Thanks,
Vicki

Personally, I have more issues than "Reader's Digest," but have never found therapy to be that beneficial to me.  I get alot more help from our group get-togethers, the OH boards and events, and peer support groups.  Vic, don't let it get you down.  You are doing a phenomenal job and we are all here for you to lean on, anytime!  I can even put on my scholarly glasses and charge you $150 an hour if that will make you feel more official lol.
