Since it’s coming upon us fast: for many of us (me included) this will be the first Thanksgiving since the Weight Loss Surgery. Of course I gonna try to be sensible, but I know it may be hard.

So what advice do you have for us newbies?
Good Luck on your Journey !!

Hi Tom

I think you have the best approach in mind - be sensible!   I was only one month out last Thanksgiving and, although I was eating 'real food', I was VERY limited to the amount I could eat.  I was still concerned that when everyone was sitting there eating apple or pumpkin pie that I would not have the "willpower" to skip it.

What I did was got a great recipe off BariatricEating .com for a SF Low Fat Cheesecake.  Low fat, no sugar and protein in dessert!  This way, I knew if I could not resist, at least my choice would be a good one.  It tasted great and the small piece I had didn't hurt my progress.

Just try to be prepared.   Bring something you can eat and kind of "plan" what you will have for the day.  Maybe a little lighter breakfast so you can enjoy something you normally wouldn't eat at dinner.

Enjoy & Happy Thanksgiving!

I am going to try the cheesecake Vicki suggested.  I need to get on track, as the halloween candy my two cute little girls brought home has been such a temptation.

there are some great recipes on the Recipe Forum. Pumpkin Pie is my thing on Thanksgiving - so there is 1 for Pumpkin Cheesecake. Looks easy too.

Well, I'm cooking for Thanksgiving & this is my first "eating holiday" since my RNY in July.  Luckily, it doesn't bother me to cook for my family.  Usually on Thanksgiving by the time I get everything done, I have zero interest in eating any of it (should be even BETTER this year lol).  There's a great SF pumpkin cheesecake that was posted on the main board a couple weeks back, pm me if you want me to email you the recipe. Shari (Jupiter6) also came up with a sugar free pumpkin microwave pumpkin spice cake that is phenomenal and very easy to make.  And there's always Eggface's blog (theworldaccordingtoeggface.com), she has lots of holiday recipes, even 2 WLS party menus.  I will definitely be using those over the holidays!  My personal "eating plan" is to have a protein coffee in the morning, then a serving of turkey, maybe a couple bites of stuffing and cranberry sauce with the family.  Probably a SF pumpkin dessert (WLS serving size) later in the day.  I have to work that day, so that will pretty much sum it up for me.  Good luck and enjoy!

It's Click Mocha Espresso with 3 tbsp non-fat powdered milk & 4 pkts Splenda., whiz it together with 8-10 oz water & microwave it for 1 min.  21 g protein per serving.  It DOES have caffeine--so the water doesn't count towards your liquids (or so I was told).  Don't try this at home if caffeine bothers you or you were told to avoid caffeine.
