Hi Guys/Gals,
I just wanted to introduce myself to the gang!  I have been exploring the site, and have seen some very helpful tips, and most importantly very inspiring stories.
My surgery date is scheduled for 12/12/08..(WooHoo), and yes it seems forever and a day away... I am driving my husband crazy because I am becoming so anxious (in a good way)... My surgeon is Hans Schmidt out of Hackensack, yes about 90 miles from home.  I did lots of research and personally know several of his patients, so I feel I am in very good hands...
I would love to hear any/and all info/tips/pointers you can offer.  One questions I do have is did everyone tell there family and how did they react.  My husband is 100% supportive, but I am not so sure about what my parents or sibling reactions will be....
So like I said any pointers or suggestions are welcome.

Nice to meet you all,
Lisa

Hi Lisa,

How are you? Congrats on your surgery date, that day I turn 40..woohoo... I dont have a date yet, with my insurance I have to wait 6 months.I just wanted to say Hi and if it helps .My brother had the surgery first and my family and I were so against it, but then he was ok and after 2 years he lost around 230 pounds. Now I am going for it and my family was alot better because we see how my brother turned out. I have about 140 lbs to lose and can't wait. So just let your family know you have a good surgeon and your doing this to live longer and feel better.Good Luck and if you would like to chat Im here. I love to listen.. Enjoy your day

Hi Lisa,
Hey!  A fellow Schmidter...I loved him!!!  I too did tons of research and I live in Sussex County and traveled all the way to Hackensack...it was well worth it.  And he's not so hard on the eyes either!!! lol
Best of luck in your journey!
I too had a wonderfully supportive husband and I did tell my family.  They weren't thrilled at first, but I brought my mom to a few dr appts and she felt much better about it by the time of my surgery.  I am almost 3 months and down over 50 lbs....so its well worth it...don't worry too much about what your family thinks...this is your decision.

Lisa,
I dont' think there is much difference.  You still need the clear liquids for anywhere from a few days to a week, then you slowly progress to regular food in stages.  I was on clear liquids for a week then mushy foods then soft foods and eventually on to solid food.  By 4-5 weeks I was on a regular diet.

Keep me posted!  My two girlfriends are having the lap band also.  My one girlfriend is using Trivedi and her surgery is like the 18th I think....

Hi Lisa and welcome!  You will do great.  We're having a south/central Jersey get together on November 15th at 12 noon at Wegman's in Woodbridge if you want to join us, feel free.  We'd love to meet you in person.  I used a Dr in Freehold but wish I had gone to the one you're using.  I have a fantastic PCP though, so that makes up for it.  Best wishes on your journey, and remember you are doing this for YOU and no one else.  Your family will come around!

Hello and Congrats!

What surgery are you having - rny or lap band?  This will make a difference in what kind of advice I would be able to give you.
