WOW - what a year it has been!!!

One year ago today I was walking the halls of the hospital without my cane for the first time in YEARS!  (Ofcourse those first few days was due more to the "good drugs" they give you than anything else!)  Regardless of the WHYs, I walked out of the hospital without that cane and haven't used it since!  I guess that was my first official "WOW" moment.

I started this journey on surgery day 125 lbs ago!    (Plus the 40 before surgery)  More than just the # of lbs, it was going from jeans with a waist size of 60 to jeans with a waist size of 42!   A woman's size 36 to a woman's size 22!  My sleep apnea improving..... my high blood pressure now being under control...... my chlorestoral counts are now normal (and maybe even too low - go figure!)   My one year bloodwork had practically everything in the "normal" ranges except the too low chlorestoral and B12 which was high (who would have guessed THAT would be high!)

I just wanted to share a few of my WOW moments over the past year.  Some of you already know how good they can feel and the rest of you will someday soon.  Don't ever forget them - it will help us continue forward on our journey!

Crossed my legs for the first time!
Was able to move the seat in my truck forward (only because I could - didn't need too hehehe)
Walked around shopping an entire day without major pains or problems
Thought it was great when I "worked up" to 5 minutes on the eliptical
Now I can do 30 minutes on that wonderful machine (when my arthritis allows)
Actually ENJOY going to the gym (ok I admit it!!!)
Getting rid of bigger size clothes
Buying smaller sizes
Being able to walk into a store (ANY store) and buy something that fits!
Going from a 5-6X shirt to an XL
Marched my first parade in 6 years in March
Marched & Completed my first parade in 6 years in October

I'm sure I could come up with a million more - the whole first year has been amazing.  My family & friends have been so supportive which helped me alot.  What helped me on a daily basis were the TERRIFIC people here on the message board - THANK YOU ALL!

Dr. Garrison & the staff at St. Clare's were wonderful - I could never thank them enough for what they helped me acheive!

To all the "newbies" and Pre-ops - Hang in there & Good Luck!   You are about to begin the journey of a lifetime!  It may not always be smooth sailing but it will DEFINATELY be worth it!!!!

Thanks everyone!!!

I forgot to say...
I can't imagine you using a cane.  Those of us who only know you after surgery - you are such an active, vibrant person I can't picture you with a cane.

Yes, unfortunately I did use a cane....... although, I did start decorating it for every holiday!!!  When I got to St Patrick's Day I liked it so much I kept using it year round and got a second one to decorate for the holidays !
