Going back under the knife...again. This time w/ DR. JEAN-BAPTISTE

So I've got a hernia as a result of my original RNY surgery and the terrible complications that almost took my life. Now after months of researching surgeons I feel confident with my choice to have my hernia repair done by Dr. Demesvar A. Jean-Baptiste at JFK.  His credentials seem top notch, tons of excellent patient reviews on OH and he's been recommended to me by quite a few people.  Thank god he accepts my insurance and I'm already cleared and on the calendar for November 6th.  I'm hoping everything goes nice and smoothe but given my track record I am completely freaking out.  I get nauseous every time I enter a hospital and it's even tough to go see my mom who is battling cancer up at HUMC.    I know that Dr. JB is a great surgeon but I'd love to hear a bunch of successful hernia repair stories right about now...lol.

Hi  I  read  your  blog and  want you to know that my  sister  has  Chrones (Sp??)  Disease and  has  had  2  very big operations  so for  24 inches of  her intestines  removed.  the  last time  she was  very sick and  wound  up with  pulmonary embolisms and  a hernia.  she  went back in and  got all  fixed  up,  it's  been  about 1 1/2 years  now and  has  another hernia.  she  is  going  back to  her  doc that fixed  her  up the  last  time and  hopefully he  takes  her insurance and  fixes  her  again.  I  pray that  you have a  speedy  recovery it seems  as  though  you have  had a  bad  time  so far,  but I am  sure  you  will  pull through with  flying  colors,  just like my sis  will  do  too.  I  wish you luck and  prayers and  hope you  take  it easy  after  surgery!!  All the best, Always, Andrea

Dr. J-B did my original surgery in 06 at his previous position. He was terrific, did a great job- didn't have a worry or concern at all! Best of luck!

Hi Adam, I am glad it worked out with Dr. JB for you.  He did my revision surgery at Muhlenberg and I was very happy with his skills.  He said his OR staff was going with him from Muhlenberg to JFK.  Just to be on the safe side, have someone write "NO PENICILLIN" across your forehead and on the inside of both arms with eyebrow pencil, etc., because you never know....

Lots of good luck.  See ya at the next support group meeting,

Michele

You are in the best surgical hands with Dr. J-B...I am almost 2 years post-op and have had a very successful journey, down to normal weight...Dr. J-B gave me the tool to succeed, he is a brilliant surgeon who has top credentials, I did my research too before choosing him and he has only gotten better with time! Good luck and don't worry!
