Hi Neece
I think all doctors have different requirements.
With mine, In my case, I have to take a multi-vitamin, 3 Citracal Calcium Petites, and two iron tabs (prescription iron w/vitamins).
After surgery iron, calcium & vitamins are usually required. You might want to check with your doctor.
Personally I've taken a multi-vitamin for years so that is something you could start to be sure you start out right.
Good Luck!

Most people are low in calcium and Vit D, so you're pretty safe supplementing them now..... add a decent multivitamin, and that should be OK. Your pre-op batch of blood work will prob include specific vitamin/mineral levels, so you'll KNOW what you need to add.... Most surgeons are good surgeons, but only had a vitamin class a zillion years ago in school, so you'll need to trust your nutritionist for the 'real' advice. The blood work will tell you (and the nut) if you need to add iron, B12, etc. Good work on wanting to go into surgery as healthy as possible! Planning ahead is great! Good Luck, Mary C
Thank you Mary C,
I did have blood work done but i dont think to check my vitamins just a cbc and to see if there was a reason I was fat like thyroid or diabetes, but everything came out great even my cholestrol,I was shocked. So yes Im pretty healthy except Im a 140 pounds over weight ... Thanks again for helping me

I agree with MaryC about what to take pre-op. As for post-op, don't go with their "take 2 Flinstones & chew a Viactiv" crapola line of BS *** sorry...sore subject lol) You need a good complete multivitamin MADE for people with RNY. I take the Bariatric Advantage multi capsules with antioxidants, a 30 day supply is like $19 on their website bariatricadvantage.com. But like my nutritionist loves to say, you can't put a price on a really good complete multivitamin. I also have to take 6 Citracal petites (1200 mg), 3000 iu D3, Biotin 1000 mcg, and 500 mcg sublingual B12. The BA vitamins are loaded with B12 (350 mcg) and even have 200 mg of Calcium Citrate. If you ever read the main boards, Andrea usually does a daily vitamin post, and she is also very helpful about answering any vitamin questions you have. For calcium, MAKE SURE you get Calcium Citrate and NOT Carbonate. I had a hard time finding one I could tolerate post-op, but someone here (Miss Vic I think, can't really remember) said they take the Citracal Petites and I've had great luck with those. I can't really tolerate chewables too well (I know, I have more issues than Reader's Digest lol) so I was thrilled to find a citrate tablet that wasn't the size of planet Earth. Once you have your surgery (or right before) I can give you samples of what I take so you can try them out & see what you like or don't like.

Hello,
I went to bariatricadvantage.com and ordered a RNY sample pack, it give you a good sample of what is needed in various flavors so you can see what you like before you buy a flavor you don't like. The sample pack is a 7 day supply.
I also found a chewable from Vitamin shoppe that is pineapple flavored and not too bad and I have a centrum chewable too but it has a nasty after taste that stays with me all day so I keep those in my desk in case i forget to take my vitamin before I leave the house for work.
Good luck, the 6 months goes by very quickly.
Thanks everyone for the help and advice...I go see my nut doctor tomorrow and will ask her too. Im going to go to the website and see what i could start now, cause i dont take a vitamin now,not sure why .Im hitting 40 and should be taking calicum...Hope to meet everybody at the Woodbridge meeting...
