Did anyone hide their WLS from family/friends?
I told my fiance obviuosly but only told a few close friends and my mom I didnt tell my siblings until after because I wanted to make sure I was okay I came through surgery ok........when I did tell my siblings I got mostly negative comments which I was shocked since we are a very close family

I told family-parents, siblings, and a few close friends. I told my two young children that I was having my stomach fixed. Now I tell them that mom is eating healthy foods. They are eating much helathier also, less junk in the house. I did not tell people at wor****il recently. I have now lost over 60 lbs since mid july and people are commenting. so I told a few at work. They were very kinid about it. I am a bit reserved I guess.
Originally I was not planning to tell my family, because lots of my aunts & uncles are older and I wasn't sure what the response would be. I'm from GA originally, and my family is all still there. I was pleasantly surprised at how supportive and encouraging they have been. DH knew, of course (since he paid for all the pre-op testing lol). Once I told my family I found myself telling anyone who would hold still long enough! Like Kate & Jacki said, I am just not cut out to be a "secret" type person. But I do have some members of my family, particularly my siblings, who would not be supportive of my choice. Looong story short, that basically boils down to petty jealousy on their part. But I had to do what was right for me, and that's what you have to do as well. It's hard to put yourself first when you have spent a lifetime of putting other people's needs & feelings ahead of your own. But I am LEARNING!! Even if your blood relatives aren't supportive, you will find that your "OH Family" will be very supportive and helpful, they all have been for me. Good luck on your journey, whatever you decide.

Hi
Thank You........ for your message and yes I must do what is right for me. Most of my siblings live in Ga also. I spoke with one sister and to my surprise she is all for WLS so I explained when I spoke to her about it before she was negative about it she then explain she was just talking about the lap band, because her boss & his wife had it,but it did not work for them, but she now know most people are successful with the lap band Ohhh she is also looking into WLS and we both agree our other siblings do not have to know.
