Hi can anybody tell me about the meetings?

Hi everybody,

 I was wondering if anybody could explain what the meetings are about? I don't have my surgery till March 09 and am trying to learn everything about the WLS.I live in South Amboy,is there one near me and one more ? when are the meetings....

Hi Neece,

Do you mean the support groups?  Or the "seminar" that many surgeons have prior to you going in for an appointment?

 I guess both would help me. I just want to know everything I can,my brother has had it done but he is doing it all wrong. He had it done in Decof 06,lost 225 pounds,but now he drinks so much and is starting to gain his weight back just 10 pounds,but if I can learn maybe I could help him.Thanks for answering me

I'm from Northern Jersey so I don't know of any meetings but if you have a surgeon, call them.  If not, try the local hospitals sometimes they hold them.  You  could always try calling a local bariatric surgeon's office and tell them you are interested in attending a pre-op meeting to get information.  Sometimes they link them up with support groups following the meetings.

I started going to support groups & several pre-op meetings about 8 months before my surgery and it was VERY helpful.  First I learned alot about the surgery and what I would have to do after the surgery.  But I also got to hear first hand from people who were actually going through the day to day issues - good & bad.  It gave me a real look at what I was getting myself into!

The next bariatric support group meeting at Raritan Bay Medical Center Perth Amboy Division will be held this Thursday 10/16 from 6:30 - 8 PM.  Everyone is welcomed regardless where you had surgery.  This is a great group to attend if your thinking of WLS.  If you are parking in the deck bring in your ticket so security can validate your parking.   If you have any questions you can call me at 732-324-6025 or email me at [email protected].  Hope to see you on Thursday.

I can surly understand your feelings just remember all present were feeling just like you when we were pre ops.  That is what support is all about.
