Info on getting rid of extra skin!

Hi Everyone,

I was told by my Sister-in-law, whose Aunt had WLS  that  her Aunt's surgeon told her that if you go to any Burn Center through out the United States they will take the extra skin we have for donations for burn victims.  The scar that  is left is hardly visible, they are trained in removing skin from burn victims and replacing it better than any surgeon.  I was told you can call your nearest Burn Center and find out whether they take donations.  I myself am not sure about doing this, but if anyone here is interested let us know if you do find out anything.  Someone might not have the money or Insurance to have cosmetic surgery, and find that this was an option.

Wow what a great idea!  I never heard of it either, but it would be a way to help yourself AND others.   My insurance will most likely cover the plastics (Lord willing!) but I have a friend who needs to have it done and hers won't pay for it.  I will tell her to check it out.  Thanks!

P.S.  Melissa, are you going to the OH event in Philly this Saturday?

Hi Jen,

I can't go to the event because I have to work.  I hope you have fun though.

Hello

THANK YOU !!!! for this info I haven't been banded yet,but I already have sagging skin and I work out this is something I will go for after I'm banded. I will call St Barnabas Hospital Burn Center and I will let you know. I have NJDirect I donot think they will pay for plastic surgery.

Hi Everyone,

I put this post on the Grad's board, and I was told this is untrue. I am sorry if I was incorrect about this.  I thought it could help someone.  If anyone wants to still check it out, you can, but for some reason the Grad's say it is untrue.

I believe that is a rumor and not true.

You are only partly correct -- although in some cases you can donate skin for burn victims, it doesn't mean the PS to have the skin removed is free or low cost.  This is a false rumor that has been going on for years.  Don't raise hopes for anyone - cause this is incorrect.  Sorry to burst your bubble....
