Revision surgery

Hello All,
I had lap band surgery in November 2005 and lost 60 pounds. I have lost no more and began gaining weight. I recently found out that I have a slipped band after undergoing  port replacement surgery June 2008 (which was not the weight gain issue at all). I have had numerous adjustments and still no weight loss.
I am so tired and defeated and realize that I need and want the gastric bypass. My issue is finding a reputable, qualified surgeon in my area oe at the most 60 miles out that will remove the lap band and perform the gastir bypass at the same time. The surgeons in the Atlantic City, Egg Harbor area want the original doctor to remove his banding, heal up  and then come and see them. That would make three surgeries in 1 year and that is purely ridiculous when I know that there are surgeons that can and will and ARE qualified to do these procedures.
Can anyone provide names of revision surgeons that I can check out? Your suggestions are greatly needed and appreciated.

Hi
Dr. Borao in Long Branch, NJ will do it.  I have had the same problems and want to switch but can not get the insurance company to pay.  Blue Cross Blue Shield will only pay for one.  I am so heart broken.
Good Luck to you

Happy to report that my revision surgery is scheduled for July 13, 2009. Dr Alexander Onopchenko has helped me with all tests and requirements by Horizon Blue Cross. I'm on my way Prais God!!

I had my lapband removed and RNY performed on the same date, June 30th, by Dr. Jean-Baptiste.  He is a caring, skilled, doctor and has performed at least 16 of these revision surgeries.  His phone number is 908-226-4200 and his office is at Park Avenue and Randolph Road in Plainfield.  Lots of good luck to you.

Thank You Greatly!!

What can I expect about surgery length, pain, time in hospital and time out of work? Did your insurance give you a problem?

I am confused -- why does Dr Patel want you to go through two surgeries?  Doesn't he work with Dr. Onopochencko?  I would think the two of them would work together for you.

My revision surgery was done laproscopically, it took almost 4 hours in surgery, I was released from the hospital the next day (early afternoon) and took off two weeks from work to recover, and I could not lift anything heavy for six weeks.  The ride home from the hospital (2 hours) was pure hell, even with the pain killers.  My insurance carrier (Oxford HMO) preapproved and covered the surgery but I did have to make copayments in accordance with my plan and Dr. JB charges a program fee, $1200 and sometimes charges a revision fee which can be higher.   Good luck.

Dr Onopochenko was the one who wanted Patel to remove the band and then come back  and see him for a evaluation.
They have separate practices but Patel informed me during my visit last week that he has hired a bariatrric surgeon to perform the gastric bypass in his association. So keep me in your prayers that I can get this done.
Thank you again for the info.

Thanks for the info on Dr. Borao, I have Horizon Blue Cross so I'll keep you posted about the acceptance for a 2nd surgery. Have you been documenting with a nutitionist the fact that you are not losing weight?
