Got My Approval And First Appoinment

I believe my referal is for lapband but if it is gastric only I am prepared for that as well. I been trying hard to lose weight on my own but it is just not working.. i lost bout 30 on my own but i practically killed myself doing so.. i have gotten so many injuries its crazy.. this last one kind of made me think..

all i know right now is i will be having the surgery at lourdes hospital  in willingboro nj.. i go to te doctors the 29th..

does anyone how long it could take before i actually get my surgery..

Well congratulations on your decision to have WLS.  As far as how long it will take till you have surgery, there is no answer to that question, because there are some things you will have to do in order to get approved from your Insurance Co.  Every Insurance co. is different.  Your Surgeon wiil explain everything to you when you see him on the 29th.  In my situation in order to get approved for surgery I had to get approvals from 5 specialists, a heart dr., a lung dr. a stomach dr. a nutritionist, and last but not least a psychiatrist.  I had to make appointments to see each one.  Then I had to do testings for some of them, so the testings had to be scheduled too.  Then once they all approved me, then they submitted the info to my surgeon, and then he submitted a letter to my Insurance with all the approvals, requesting they approve me for surgery.  It only took me 3 months to get my approval from my insurance because I was persistant.  So once you see your surgeon like I said you will find out what you need to do.  Also some Insurance Co.'s require a 6 month supervised diet by your doctor, so you might have to do that which will prolong your surgery too.  I got lucky I didn't have to do that.  Well anyway, Good-Luck, and let us know how things are working out, and if you have any questions, we are to help.  

ya i am so not sure with tricare.. i am already approved through my insurance.its military insurance..the office did tell me id have to take test which is blah but hey if i have to.. they said after testing should be bout 2-3 weeks for the turn around with tricare..i guess we will see.. i am all new to this.. i know my insurance on this surgery will be no later than dec.. they have set dates for the surgery and after visits and before visits.. the latest date is march 09 but those are for my afters.. military is weird.. well can be..

I know what you mean about trying to lose weight on your own. It isn't as easy as everyone makes it out to be. Believe me..one of my weight loss attempts put me in the hospital. You made the right decision.

I went for my first appointment on May 22 and they scheduled me for July 15th. In that time I had to go for all my pre-ops and blood work, which I did. After all that was done, they put my paper work in for my insurance. That was on a Friday...by Monday I had gotten a phone call saying I was approved.
