Morris or Sussex Counties Anyone?
i'm from union county and i just recently, when i say recently i mean september 8th 2008 haha, but anyway i had RNY at st. peter's in new brunswick done by dr. bertha who is absolutly amazing. the hospital is very good as well, i just know that where they kept the bypass patients there was some construction going on so it was a little noisy at times, but you don't really even pay attention to it.
Hello and welcome. We are practically neighbors. I live in Randolph.
My surgeon was Dr. Ed McLean in Morristown, and I went to Morristown hospital. I also considered Abkin and Bertha, who I've heard raves about, and Dr. Pucci out of St. Claire's in Dover.
I liked McLean well enough. I haven't lost as much weight as I would have liked, but I'm not sure I can blame that on him. I've always been a slow loser, and I guess the surgery didn't change that.
The hospital was pretty good. I had my RNY on Friday morning, and in the afternoon I developed a fever and fast heart rate. They did all kinds of tests to see if I had a leak, and they weren't able to find one, or explain the symptoms. So Saturday night I went in for a second surgery. Turned out I didn't have a leak. They think I just had a touch of pneumonia, so they gave me breathing treatments and anti-biotics and sent me home on Tuesday.
The quality of the staff was inconsistent. Most of the nurses were great and very attentive; but some acted like I was bothering them. But for the most part, they took good care of me.
McLean actually left town after the first surgery, so his partner Ward looked after me and did the second surgery. I recovered quickly and had very little pain, so I guess that is something in their favor.
McLean is very laid back, and doesn't have strict rules about pre-op diets or even post-op liquid diets. I know every doc is different, but he is very easy going. He cleared me for coffee at six months. Yay!
If you have any other questions, feel free to PM me.
Best of luck!

Hi
I'm in Parsippany also (Lake Hiawatha).
Dr. Garrision is my surgeon - I am about 10 1/2 months out. I can't say enough good things about Dr. Garrison - he is wonderful. He is patient about answering any questions or concerns that you have and "tells it like it is". The pre-surgery program goes over everything in detail until you understand it 100%. I can honestly say that there were NO surprises after surgey - everything had been explained! Dr. Garrision always greets you with a smile and that sure helps you be at ease when you get nervous.
I had my surgery at St. Clares - Dover. Everyone there from the nutritionist, Cheryl, to the surgery staff, to the floor nurses were great! All were supportive and extremely helpful.
Good Luck in your surgery and don't hesitate if you have any questions. I will be glad to share my experiences. Everyone is different but hearing from different people makes you realize you are not alone!
Be sure to come to one of the support groups - even before surgery - it's good to hear from people at all stages of surgery. St. Clares in Dover has a goup the 3rd Wednesday of the month and Dr. Garrison has one the 2nd Tuesday of the month.

I had my surgery with Dr. Edward Pucci. He has his office in Denville across from St. Clare's.
There is a bariatric surgery center in the Diver campus of St. Clares. I had a very good experience with both my surgeon and the hospital. My insurance is another story....
I reccomend St. Clares and Dr. Pucci.

I live in Hopatcong, but grew-up my teenage years in Parsippany-Lake Hiawatha (Iroquois Ave - Parsippany High School class of 81 !!REDSKINS !! GO GO GO !! - ok enough about me)
I had my opeartion done with Advance Laparoscopic Surgeons, and Doctor Abkin did my operation. Doctors Abkin, Bertha or Garrison are all great.
Had I gone with another choice, I would have choosen Doctor Gritsus - located in Pompton Plains. Many folks at the Saint Clare's Support group use the Pucci's (all 3 brothers) in Denville.
Good luck
