Looking for Therapist experienced with WLS patients....

Hi Dani, my surgeon referred me to two therapists, located in Montclair that his patients all go to, I haven't met with them yet, but have an appointment with one, Dr B. Names are Dr Badaracco-Apolito (female) and Dr Mgbako (male), both in Montclair. As I said I haven't met with them, but from my understanding, they meet with several WLS patients and Dr B, attends Dr Strom's support groups. Hope this helps.

I would LOVE to hear the answers everyone gets too.  I have been looking through my insurance doctors and none of them seem to have any experience with WLS patients.

There was a doctor & his wife that came to the St Clare's group meetings a couple times.  I'm sure Cheryl could give you their names.  I didn't really think they would be a good match for me - especially at the time.

I saw Dr.Melissa Rivera Marano for my psych eval. I liked her and may call her office.  I got her number from st clares. But they said she is only in the area every other week.

I go to group therapy every Monday night in Pequannock run by Dr. Michael Sakowitz.  He posts sometimes on this website and is a member of the OH team. He specializes in WLS patients and I find him very helpful and informed. Of course group therapy is different than one on one. But I think if I needed support I would certainly use him.

I'd be interested to hear more about the monday night meetings in Pequannock.   Is the group discussion solely about WLS?  Do only WLS patients attend?  What time and does it cost anything???

I am jumping in from the PA board, and can highly recommend Dr. Thomas Barrett, Ph.D.  He is a psychologist in Green Village, NJ.  His number is 973,301,0442.  Even though I live in PA, I drive to his office regularly, as he originally was in PA when I started therapy with him.  He has experience with all sorts of patients, including eating disorders and WLS.
