4 Weeks Down....Not too shabby...Room for Improvement

HI everybody!!!  This board has been sooo slow lately!
Just thought that I would update everybody on my progress.  I will be 4 weeks out tomorrow and I am down 24 lbs!  Not too bad, I'll take it!
So far, I have had a wonderful post op experience.  I have not dumped on any foods yet - I seem to be tolerating everything (excep****er) relatively well.  I have had no surgical complications to date and keeping my fingers crossed that it stays that way....

Protein and food is a bit tricky for me though.  For starters, I am having a big problem getting in even 60 grams of protein.... but I'm working on finding something that I can drink that doesn't make me gag.

Food on the other hand...is becoming too much of a chore.  I am sick of tuna, cottage cheese, yogurt, etc.... It's the same old food day after day after day...
I just want a sandwich or a salad or something normal for crying out loud!!!!!!!!

How do you handle (or how did you handle) getting out of the food rut????  It is really depressing to me...

Any suggestions...

Danielle

did your surgeon give you an idea of when you can move out of mushy food?  At 6 weeks I was cleared to eat just about anything...still watching raw veggies though.

I'm already out of mushy foods.  I was able to go to soft foods on day 15.  I know it was much faster than  your doc.  But I meet with my dr. this thursday and I think I will then have the clearance to eat just about anything as well....

What do you eat for lunch?  Breakfast?

Dinners not so bad, I usually just eat a reg dinner, just a miniature portion...lol

breakfast: eggs: scrambled or hard boiled , cottage cheese, greek yogurt with splenda canned peaches or frozen cherries,  kays naturals protien cereal, oatmeal from smart forme with 15 g protien, kashi waffle with teaspoon of peanut butter, fiber one twig cereal

Lunch: rolled up lunch meat, tuna fish, soup, just started eating mozz cheese with a tiny bit of tomato and cucumber and balsamic dressing, south beach tortilla kit things-ceasar,
I am in a little bit of a food rut.  But as I am back to work I don't want to risk getting sick or not feeling well.
I do the protien drinks too...i like the fruit juice type from smarte forms and the nectar iced tea.  Some times I have one for breakfast on the weekend and I blend the choc or vanilla with fruit and have that.

After some extremely difficult times, consulting the dr and nut I have added in good carbs. My constipation was extreme and I couldn't take it.   I feel much better now.  Sorry if this is TMI. High fiber whole wheat, carbs from fruit and veggies, no white flour or sugar  things. Trying to set good habits, but it is hard.  The head hunger is tough to fight.

Hi Danielle,

I am happy to hear you are doing well.  Can I give you a suggestion that was given to me when I first had my surgery.  I was told to take my time as far eating food in general, because little do you know that it takes your new stomach several months to heal after the surgery.  I know you are tired of the same old thing, but it's better to be safe then sorry.  I took my time in the beginning, and did not eat chewable food for at least 2 months after the surgery.  I needed to get used to the fact that I decided to change my life for the good.  I wanted to eventually not let food consume me, I wanted to learn how to eat to live, not live to eat.  I admit it is not easy, but this tool we have now has really taken away that addictive that I had for food.  You will see in time that if you take your time, food will only be important to you when it needs to be.  This is my suggestion to you, I pray you have a healthy and successful journey.

I'm so happy your recovery is going so well!  It's great to hear you've had no complications and are healing so well.

Good luck finding food!  I'm keeping an eye on your progress...

Hi, well when I met w/the surgeon for my consult, I was all gung-ho, like I'm going to get my appts. all done in like 2 weeks, but now I'm realizing it's not as easy...It's hard to get appts, etc. I have a lot of time still til surgery, but my doctor won't get my approval until I complete all my tests...so I kind of want to do everything fast, this way I know I'm definitely approved.  Even though I know I'm definitely a candidate since my BMI is high and my insurance covers 100%.  I'm sure this process is very normal..but it's kind of a lot of work..but all worth it for the outcome, right?

Talk soon.
