Ok everyone! We wanted to get the nj board up and running .
What is everyone doing for exercise?  I had surgery mid July and in an attempt to escape that awful word I gave myself until Labor Day before I would start.
I have a sort of plan....we belong to the ymca as a family so 2 x per week doing the circut there
and joing a group of women who walk for a 1/2 hour at lunch 3 x per week
Probably need to up it but for now that seems realistic
I work full time and have 2  kids
How do you fit it in?
What do you do?
Help me people?!

Hi...

Well.....I walk 4 to 5 times a week in my neighborhood. 2 nights I walk with my husband for 30 to 45 minutes and the other 2 to 3 days I walk with a friend of mine for 90 minutes....not by choice...LOL! She is thin and walks to tone her body but boy can she walk!! I call it the Little Ferry Death March!

I used to go to a gym with my mom. But I live in NJ and the gym is in NY. I am just too lazy to get up at 5 am to drive there to work out. I mean I work in NY but that is just crazy.

I know eventually I will have to go to a gym but for now I am sticking to my walking. I would love if a group got together to walk...I think that would be fun.

I had my open revision (RNY) on June 5. I exercise one to two times per day. I started exercising about four weeks post op with walking, progressed to a treadmill and now I do 30 minutes (morning and evening) on an eliptical. I have the treadmill and eliptical in my home so I have no excuses not to work out. Also, my husband and I like to ride bikes and we try to do that about once per week. While I was on vacation recently the hotel we stayed at didn't have a work out room. So, I got up early each morning and walked. So far I've lost 42 pounds. I know exercise is key to being able to maintain long-term weight loss.

I had been going to Curves for 5 years prior to RNY, continued afterwards till about 7 months post op. Then I needed more and joined the RWJ Wellness and Fitness Center. There are several in NJ, it's expensive (some insurance plans cover partially) but there is such a huge variety you can't get bored. They have every piece of exercise equipment known to man, 2 pools, 150 exercise classes, personal trainers, etc. My mom commented how toned my legs are when I was wearing a short summer dress today! Damn, it is worth it! I do about 20-30 min. on the elliptical, 2 classes and the strength training circuit...I try to get to the gym about 5x a week. I have been successful in maintaining my weight loss for about 10 months! I'll be 2 years post op in November. I am very lazy and would never do anything at home! PS-The gym has TVs on most of the machines so I get to watch Oprah, Ellen, Foodnetwork, CNN, Foxnews and HGTV!

Everyone is doing something it seems.  I have read that walking is so good for you.  I made it to the gym twice this week and will go again saturday.  Small goals!

I started going to the gym but I wasn't really into any of the machines they have. I tried them and I got bored really fast. I tried the treadmill and got bored, I tried the cycling session, and I got bored, all you do is pedal but don't go anywhere. I tried the aqua aerobics and fell in love with it.

I used to go whenever I had the chance, but the week before last I went 5x and worked out for an hour during each session. It's a lot of fun and contrary to popular belief, it's hard and you do sweat. You burn 400 calories doing the aqua aerobics and work your abdomen even if you don't mean to.

I wasn't able to go last week because of my conflicting schedule, but I plan to get back on track tomorrow and throughout the week.
