O/T Allergy Medicine and Underage Gambling....

Hello Friends~

I have two issues, and they are not listed in the order of importance here.... and they are totally off topic, well at least the second one is... but I needed some friends to give me advice on it, so here I am :)  Asking my friends.

I have terrible allergies today and yesterday.  I have a sore throat, stuffy nose and ear ache.  I think it's allergies, I usually don't have them, but it's classic symptoms.... I did have them a few summers ago, and this is what is felt like from what I remember.  What is SAFE to take for us gastric bypass patients?  I am 2 years out of surgery... and my throat feels like raw hamburger!  Can't sleep, can't eat..... here go those stubborn 3 pounds that wouldn' move anyway!  I couldn't even eat my oatmeal this morning it hurt so bad.

The other, more important thing.  My fault and I am feeling so guilty!  We went to A/C this weekend, my entire family, about 16 of us.  We all stayed over to celebrate my Mom's birthday.  We have an 18 year old daughter.  After dinner we went downstairs to play the slots.  I invited our daughter to play with us for a few minutes and gave her $10 to play with.  I inserted the money and my players card and showed her how to push the buttons.  My husband at one machine, next to him my daughter, and then myself.  We had been playing for about 5 minutes when they came over and arrested my daughter!  I never dreamed it would be that serious.. I thought they might ask her to leave the floor?  NO, they actually processed her in the security office with state troopers present.  The men (security guards) were very nasty and rude.  (they weren't even of gambling age themselves... but I later read online that they get a $50 bonus for each underage gambler they catch..)  She has a court date.  The fine is $500 and 6 months loss of license.  She starts college in one week!  She is driving back and forth to school, living at home.  Well.... we don't know if we need a lawyer.  I want to ask the judge if he can give her the fine, BUT give her a provisional drivers license to go back and forth to school (and work if they allow) and have her do community service somewhere.  I don't know if we need a lawyer to do this, or do they allow you to communicate with the judge about the penalties?  I don't know what to do.  Court is two weeks from now in Atlantic City.

Anyone have any ideas?  Experience with this?  I have never been to court before, I have no idea how this works.  Thanks for any suggestions on either topic, I have had a bad week here.

You must get a lawyer, tomorrow! And, the lawyer can get the court date pushed forward a couple of months too. No way should you do this on your own.

NJ doesn't allow provisional licenses anymore. However, a good lawyer should be able to get the 6 months down to 3.

Good luck!

WOW!  I did not know AC was getting this tough......that is horrible.  I remember going to AC with my parents and watching my parents play and standing right by them but never played when I was under age.....they never said anything.  The last time I was in AC I was at a table with under age guys playing big dollars and they were bragging to the dealer about it too.  They never did anything because they were playing about $1000.00 between about 5 guys. I guess they did nothing because they were spending a lot of money.

I would get a lawyer for your daughter to be on the safe side.  I wish you all the best. good luck!

Thank you all for your responses.  I am in the process of getting an attorney, someone on the boards is assisting me personally :)  This is just a hurdle in life, and we will get over it together. I believe everything happens for a reason, this included.

Just be warned, and PLEASE tell everyone you know that is going to A/C with children under 21-do NOT let them gamble, not even for a minute.  This is a public service announcement... coming your way from a very naive Mom who is learning a lesson the hard way :)

Have a great Labor Day weekend and be safe.
No drinking and driving.

Whoah!!!  I didn't know AC was getting that strict either.  I go frequently and have never seen that happen.  Your daughter must be devastated.  :(

We are all devastated-to think that this can happen is sickening to me, but we have to deal with it now......  we have learned a valuable lesson.  Don't break the law, no matter how small it might seem....

Hi there. I am sorry to here about your "unfortunate" incident in AC.  I work at the Borgata and see parents do the same thing all the time.  AC is so serious about underage gambling, because of the fines.  I honestly don't think it had to be handled that way. They usaually just ask for I.D. and then ask you to leave the casino floor. I hope you make out ok in court.

Good Luck!

Thanks for your well wishes... and I could not agree with you more!  She should have been asked to leave the floor..... we would have removed her with no questions asked... instead, it's turned into a major ordeal for us all.
