Too Much Exercise???
HELLO EVERYONE! OKAY, I HAD RNY GASTRIC BYPASS SURGERY 7/26/07. I'VE LOST WELL OVER 100LBS. I FEEL GREAT AND I LOOK GREAT. HOWEVER, I'M FINDING THAT I MAY BE OBSESSING OVER MY WEIGHTLOSS. I EXERCISE BY POWER-WALKING 2-3 MILES EVERYDAY WITH 3LB WEIGHTS ON MY WRISTS AND ANKLES. I DO CRUNCHES, SIT-UPS AND JUMPING JACKS AS WELL. EVERY THING I EAT THROUGHOUT THE DAY, I'M THINKING, MAN I GOTTA WORK THIS OFF LATER. I RECOGNIZE THAT THIS CAN BECOME A PROBLEM AND I INTEND ON SPEAKING TO MY DOCTOR ABOUT IT. BUT I'M JUST CURIOUS....HAS ANYONE ELSE EXPERIENCED THIS TYPE OF THING? IF SO, TELL ME ABOUT IT. LET ME KNOW I'M NOT ALONE.
Hi Ronnie:
I can empathize with you somewhat...congrats on your fabulous weight loss! Let's face it, we worked hard to get this weight off quickly and we want it to stay off so exercise is a necessary evil. I don't think you are obsessed, you just want to be assured of not gaining it back. If you enjoy the exercise you are doing, by all means you should continue. If it's a chore and you dread it you need to find something you like. I joined a full service gym and go about 5x a week. I do a 30 min. zumba class on Sundays, a 30 min. fitball class on Saturdays and all the days I go on the elliptical for 25 min. I do weight training on Sundays as well and get it again at the fitball class. I don't spend alot of time in the gym but have found things I enjoy and work for me to keep the weight off. If you think you are losing too quickly then you can probably afford to start adding more carbs to your diet, pasta, whole grains, etc. Most experts say we only need 20 min. of exercise to maintain our weight loss. Perhaps you should consult a personal trainer to set up a more realisitic program for you...but exercise is extremely important so keep it up!

Thank you Sheri so much for your reply. I do enjoy exercising though. I've been starting to get some mixed opinions lately. Isn't it funny how people offer their opinions without even being asked? LOL. Before it was...oh wow, you look fantastic....now it's...oh you have to stop losing so much weight. Stop exercising so much. You need food! I must say that I do agree that I don't need to lose anymore weight but I'm working out to build muscle now. I know it's helping because my thighs and calves are tight now. I have sooo much energy. My arms and midsection are getting their..slowly but surely I am seeing results. My jog takes about 50mins there and back. I have cut back since I left this post. I go 4 days a week now instead of every day. Again, thank you, good luck and congratulations to you too!
I got the same thing from people who didn't have bariatric surgery....you are too thin, I hope you are not losing anymore weight! Your body will tell you when it's done, I went to 127 and now I fluctuate between 132-134. I am below my goal so I'm glad. It's not easy, your appetite comes back, you can eat more often and more at a time. People who don't exercise will gain weight back...if we enjoy the exercise, we can reward ourselves with snacks, to me it's a trade off and well worth it!
