i need to know what the difference is between a pannilectomy and an abdominoplasty

ross needs all that skin taken off and i'm having a tough time finding a surgeon who takes insurance -- maybe i'm  using the wrong terminology when i call them

any help is appreciated :)

thanks :)

I believe that Panni only gets rid of extra skin and the abdminoplasty takes care of the hanging muscle

Isn't the Abdomonplasty the tummytuck and the pannilectomy just the hanging skin.

that is what i need to find out -- i know what the 2 words mean -- but what seperates them?? how far down does the panni have to hang to be considered a pannilectomy?? what constitutes each different surgery??

abdominoplasty is repair of the abdomen
pannilectomy is removal of the pannus

thanks

Hi- I went to Wikipedia.org to look up your question.  It is panniculectomy not pannilectomy.  I found  www.yourbariatricsurgeryguide.com  for some info. The site says that the panniculectomy only removes excessive skin and fat  and  the abdominoplasty tightens muscles as well as remove excessive skin and fat.  I had abdominoplasty with Dr. Resch in 1/04 and was very pleased-she removed 5 lbs of extra skin and tightened my saggy abdominal musles.  Insurance did not pay-It was a gift to myself.-donna

thank you donna for the info

we have to try to get insurance to  cover it -- we can't afford gifts like that for ourselves :)

take care
