I am about to be scheduled for a chemical stress test. Can someone who has had one already let me know what happens/how long it takes/pain involved and anything else I might need to know about it? Thanks in advance.

I had a “nuclear” stress test done prior to my operation - and it was fine.
For me, there is no pain involved what-so-ever.
I basically lied down, and they inject me with the “chemical” and then they had me to do alternating leg lifts, and things of that nature - to see if my heart would react. This went on for about 10 minutes (or so).   Hope all goes well with you!! Keep us posted!!
Good Luck on your Journey !!

Thanks for your response. Where did you have your nuclear stress test? I'm having trouble finding a place that will take a roughly 500 lb patient. Perhaps the place where you had yours done can help me.

Hi Drew,

I had a chemical stress test, all they did is put a small IV in your wrist, to inject the dye, they made you lay down and then they injected it.  Then my doctor just monitored me and kept asking me if I felt any pain in my chest, I kept saying no. Eventually he stopped and I was done.  It was very simple.

Drew,

I know it's a hike for you, but the Morristown Memorial Hospital was able to accommodate me (I was close to 435). They even have treadmills for folks our size.

However, Melissa is correct. With a chemical stress test you are injected with a dye, and the tests are usually done lying down.
Good Luck on your Journey !!
