Surgery Down...Now Recovering!

Hi everyone.  I want to say thank you to everyone who has been posting messages on my profile for a speedy recovery.  I've said it before and I'll say it again, people on this site are amazing!!!
Anyway, surgery was Monday and it was extremely successful.  Dr. Schmidt said it went off without a glitch and I am tolerated all my fluids relatively well.

I am a little uncertain as to whether or not I am supposed to be taking my protein and vitamin supplements right away ... dr. didn't tell me to.  I have called his office and I am waiting to hear back from them probably tomorrow.

I'm a little disappointed tho...I have seen the St Clairs RNY diet and they let you move on to mushy foods a lot sooner than my dr.  I had surgery on Monday and I cannot move on to mushy foods until next thursday.  It's a little depressing thinking ahead that I have to be on these clear liquids for another whole week.  But again, its just a week, right?  What's one week in the grand scheme of what I endeavor????  That's what I keep telling myself.

Anyway, I do feel as if I have been hit by a truck.  I know thats what people told me I was going to feel for a few days...but I guess you are never really prepared for it.  Being this was my first major surgery...other than my c section 2 yrs ago.

Well enough for now....I'm open to any suggestions and/or comments....

Love you all

OH YEAH>>> by the way, it is day 4 and I am already down 6 lbs.  Where do I find the Weight Loss Ticker???? lol

Congratulations Danielle,

Welcome to the loser's bench.  I think you'll find every day you will feel better and better, and six lbs. is a great start.  When I got out of the hospital I weighed 20 lbs more than when I went in because of all the IV fluids. I was swollen for about a week before it started coming off.  Clear liquids is tough. I was allowed protein shakes as soon as I came home from the hospital, but even that got old fast. The only thing I can say is time goes by fast and you will be enjoying real food before you know it.

Enjoy the journey and keep us posted.

Again congratulations on the biggest step!

Hi Danielle,

I am happy to hear you are doing good!!!  Welcome to the loser's bench!!!  I just want to let you know take your time.  When I first had my surgery, I ended  up in the hospital 2 weeks later for acid reflux.  The patient in the bed next to me me told me that his sister had the surgery, and that she started to eat solid foods to quickly, and ended up gaining all the weight back.  He explained to me that your body needs time to heal inside, and that I need to take my time as far as eating solid foods again, to continue to drink, and slowly introduce soft foods, even if it takes a couple of months.  So that's what I did.  I believe that what he was telling me was right.  I did lose a lot of weight in the beginning, but I believe that I helped my body to heal inside, from such a major surgery.  Remember by having the surgery you decided to change your life for the good, and forever.  So drink the protein shakes, and the water.  Nothing but sf pudding and jello, and soft foods for at least the first month, then see if intruducing chewable foods, in the second month works for you.  Remember to chew, chew, chew, so you can digest the food properly, and remember not to drink and eat at the same time, 30 minutes before or after.  This journey is a little hard in the beginning, but you will get through it, then you you will see how amazing it is.  I pray you have a healthy, and successful journey.  God Bless!!!

So glad to hear from you!  Have been thinking of you. Love the ticker.  Welcome to the loser's bench.  I realized today that I can't make the august support mtg at St. Clares.  We are going away to Knobel's in PA. Maybe we could get together for a cup of tea or something after labor day.  Early out rny'ers don't eat much so just a cup of tea should do it! LOL
Take Care

Hey Laura.  How was your vacation?  You're gonna love Knoebels too, its really great.  We camped up there a few yrs ago...we're planning on going back next summer!!
Too bad about missing group.  I can't remember if its the 3rd or 4th wed of the month.  I think its the 3rd which would make the meeting on the 20th??? Is that right?  Last months meeting was the 23rd and I think that was the 3rd wed....let me know if you do....! lol
But if i don't see you we will definitely have to get together......
Thanks
