Fills with Dr. Strom, Dr. Schmidt or Dr. Jean-Baptiste

Does anyone know if you have to drink barium every time you  do a fill with any of these docs? My friend in LA who goes to Dr. Khalili drinks barium and they put her on an x-ray table every time she goes for a fill and she watches on a screen as she gets the fill.  I'm curious if these doctors do this procedure, or do they just feel around for the port.

The reason I ask this is because it's a more accurate procedure the way she has it done.  She has never been over filled and it's definitely because they can see exactly how big the band is getting, etc.

Thanks for your input!

My Aunt had Lap Band surgery last September and she sees Dr Schmidt..and I believe he does not use this method for fills...honestly I dont think I have heard of this too often...the way Dr Khalili does it...

Dr. Jean-Baptiste does not perform his adjustments using fluroscopy. His fills are done in the office. There is no need to drink any barium when he does his fills.

I had my first fill today and my doctor Vadim Gritsus does it in the hospital with the x-ray equipment.  It was really cool to see that before my fill the fluid went right down but after, it stays up in the upper pouch longer.  I have nothing but good words to say about this doctor and highly recommend him.  Good Luck!

Hi, a few questions for you Nanco97...Where did you have your suergery?  If it was at Chilton Memorial, how did you find the experience and care there?  Also, Does Dr. Gritsus charge for his aftercare program?  My insurance fully covers this procedure...but it seems some doctors charge for a care program and I'm curious if he does.  Thanks for your help!  Good luck on your journey.

fills with fluoroscopy supervision are the most accurate,- it is safe and is recommended by the band manufacturer at least once a year,- it also cuts down on unneccessary visits to the doctors office,- saves u time and gas! my doctors,- Abkin and Bertha of Advanced Laparoscopic Assosiates do it this way too,- they trained Gritsus!
