Getting Nervous!!!

Hi everyone!  Well, its finally down to the wire now.  I am set for RNY surgery at 1pm this coming Monday the 11th at Hackensack!  Can't believe its really happening....I feel like I worked so hard to get here that now that is is here, it seems unreal a little bit.
I am a little nervous because I have to be honest....I haven't done very much to prepare myself for my surgery.  My doctor did not require the liver shrink diet, or any diet for that matter....
so basically, I have been eating like I'll never eat again!!!!!

Anyway, just thought it would make me feel better to admit it....lol....but it really didn't.
I have been going to meetings....so I have some insight as to what to expect and what vitamins and protein I need to have in the house....and one of my new OH friends at the meeting even copied some info for me (thank you Laura) on what foods/liquids will be best.

Well, that's it for now....please don't anyone beat me up for my "lack of" diet prep....I feel bad already.... lol

Love you all

hey dani

good luck with your surgery.  and stop eating, lol.  seriously if you eat light for a bit before the surgery, it goes easier.  i only had to do a liquid diet two days before my RNY two years ago.

soon you will be on the losers bench with all of us.

hugs, jacki

Hi Danielle

So now that you're down to the wire - how do you really feel?  Just kidding!  Glad you got to some of the meetings - everything you learn will make it that much easier - at least no big surprises!

Lots of Luck to you on Monday!  I'll be on vacation next week but I look forward to seeing "less of you" at the next meeting!

Remember, walk, walk, walk & don't forget to walk!

One more thing...... remember to take a "BEFORE" picture (even if you don't want to) - it will make you smile when you take the next one and compare them!

I started doing mine before each Doctor appt or in monthly intervals.   Just a little fun thing to help measure your progress without getting caught up on what the scale says!

Hi Danielle,

First of all- pack your chap stick!! The post-op anti-nausea drugs dry ya up like a prune....

Secondly, I did not have to do any special pre-op liquid diet for 2 or so weeks like many have had to do....

I was on a 1200 calorie diet for 2 months before my surgery date....

But...post-op you will not be able to eat certain things for a while....so while I am not trying to encourage stuffing yoursef....you might want to think about foods/flavors you have read that you won't be able to tolerate for a few months post-op and have some of those foods....in moderation....

I am sitting here trying to remember the 3 meals I had decided to try to get in pre-op....

One was dinner at a Tex Mex place...for steak fajitas....
another was for a yummy steak...and some mashed potatoes
and I swear I had a 3rd and can't remember it...
Wait, I think it might have been a piece of KFC chicken
But I knew steak & chicken, peppers, mashed potatoes would be a no no for a while till my grouchy pouchy could handle it.
I never got the fajitas though.....
Did not stuff myself/stuck to small portions....

So....although being on a pre-op diet might have helped you in many ways (ex-liver shrinkage),
you didn't .....so....
Be smart and be very aware post-op you might feel like you have been hit by a MACK truck...
going from no food restriction/dietary changes...to severe......especially in the early post-op weeks.....
I hope you have an easy time!!!!
Good luck next week!!!

Bernadette

Hi
good luck in your big day
I'm having the same last meal feelings but I'm sure we are both going to be ok as long as we follow the doctors orders.

can't wait to hear all about your surgery

YES! Don't forget the chapstick.  You can not drink anything in the hospital the first day and you will be so dry and chapped.  And walk....I think that is why I didn't have that much trouble with gas. Call if you have questions.  And I also second the mack truck feeling for the first week.
I am three weeks out today and now feeling human!

Good luck1

Hi Danielle,

Good luck on Monday. I will be away from my computer all weekend, so I wanted to wish you luck.

You've heard all the advise already, but let me tell you to relax as best you can, do what the doctor asks, and don't get to anxious. It's a scary journey, but an exciting one, and I only wish I had done this years earlier.

Keep us posted on your recovery.

Danielle,

Good luck on your new JOURNEY !! If it means anything, I too ate like it was going out of style prior to my operation. In fact, I was scared they would cancel it because of the weight gain. PRAISE GOD they didn't, and everything went well. When I look back to what I ate then, and what I eat now - it's nothing short of AMAZING !!

Remember, we're all here to help you !!

Again, good luck - and let us know how it all turned out !!
