had to have band removed

so, i had to have my band removed a week ago. i am a nerous wreck now. don't want to gain back the weight i've already lost. i went from 214 to weighing 128 this july. i was very sick though. was banded in march 07 and had  my 1st adjustment in may07. since that day my life has been hell. i  was vomiting everyday for over a year. held down pretty much no food at all. my body was living off the fat it had stored. everytime i went to the dr he said he didn't know what was wrong. never did n e testing except for a floro. thought maybe i had band slippage but couldnt see it so never did n e thing about it.. wasn't losing any weight and somehow from being able to hold down cheese doodles i actually gained 8 lbs from oct 07 till april 08. i then decided to switch dr's and pray for some help. since i had a weight gain my new dr did an adjustment. well my band was too tight...so i thought. wound up in the hospital with severe dehydration....i couldn't even hold down water. dr removed all the fluid from my band and prayed it would fix the problem and cure a slippage if there was one. only to find myself back to the emergency room for dehydration twice again with very low potassium. i have an episode from my pot. being so low it was like i ahd a stroke...all the symptoms of one. that was very scary!!! of course leading me back to a hospital stay n havving my band removed. my dr tried to save the band by pulling the stomach back through but being it was slipped for so long the lining of my stomach is soooooo thin that he couldn't fix it nor put a new band on. now where am i left. i went into the hospital this last time weighing 128 but very very sick. no fluids in my body and no butrients. when i was sent home n well hydrated i weighed 137. a week later i'm 145. my body is really absorbing all the food n actually i get full very fast yet packing the pounds on. i'm so scared to regain all the weight and it actuallly is a mind game now. someone help i;m going crazy over here. all i thnk about now is weight weight weight. what do i do? hope there is some hope or back to diet pills again!!!!

Denise,   Have you spoken to your current Bariatric Doctor? Maybe they need to wait until your stomach is healed before they try again. Maybe contact yet another Bariatric Doctor for their opinion.   I hope and pray things work out for you!!   Good luck, and keep us posted.   Tom

yes, i spoke to my dr. he said i do have to wait for my stomach to hear due to the lining being sooooo thin, but then the insurance comes to play with the approval of putting in another band. i don't want to have to gain back all my weight just to be banded and at the same time trying to eat healthy and trying to keep my weight gain as minimal as possible. thanks for all your support. i'll be in touch!

wow denise, so sorry to hear about all the problems you have had.

i think you need to consult with another doctor or two and maybe just not a surgeon, maybe a gastro doctor to find out whats going on with your insides.

as far as the weight gain, maybe your body needed a few pounds, or it could just be adjusting to you being able to eat again.

i would take one day at a time, keep posting here on the board, and maybe track your food and calories with an online tracker, so that you can get proper nutrition without overeating.

I had my band removed 4/28/08 and have gain some weight, it is never recking but hang in there you will not gain all of your weight overnight.  You need time to recover before revision is an option.  I'm schedule for revision on 8/18

if u don't mind me asking...why did u have to have ur band removed? did u have any problems with ur insurance covering a revision? i don't wanna have togain all my weight back just to bee approved

I have no real advice except perhaps to check the revision board.  I bet there are people there who have had similar problems.

 Hi all, I mainly hang out on the Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy board since thats what I am having, but I thought I would pop over here for a bit to see whats up.  So now here's my 2 cents... I know a lot of banded people have gotten a VSG as a revision.  I dont know how much weight they put on, if any, before the revision, but its an option to look into.

my band was removed because of erosion(the band went inside my stomach)
my insurance company aproved my revision with no problem(because erosion is considered a malfuncion) I have gain 15lbs since by band was removed but I'm not discorage the journey will continue one day at a time.
