EKG GLITCH!! UGH!!!
Well, its just my luck that after 9 months of preparation and insurance BS....I may be held up by my heart!!!! I had my pre op testing (surgery set for 8/11) and they found an abnormality in my EKG and now on Weds I have to go for a stress test!!!! People are really freakin me out about this stress test.... saying how hard it is and all....has anyone here had to take one...and if so, can you help put me at ease.... Or not????!!!!!! I am wondering if I am even going to make it through the test at all....and if I don't....what will happen? Will they not let me have surgery?????

A stress test isn't the worst thing in the world. Some times abnormalities don't mean much of anything so you are better to just find out for sure - then you have one less thing to worry about. For this surgery, they really just want everything to go well and not cause more problems than they fix. That's why all the testing.
In the past, I have had both types of stress tests. The regular where you run on the treadmill and the one where you lay flat and they use drugs to up your heart rate. In either case, just think how you might feel if you were asked to run a distance you are not used to - you might feel tired and you can feel your heart beating very hard. It's really not bad just maybe uncomfortable.
Take it one step at a time - why worry for no reason? GOOD LUCK!!!

Danielle,
I too have had standard stress test, and “nuclear” stress test - and have passed them both. I have a condition known as athletic heart (which is funny, because I am not too athletic). It means my heart rhythm is sometimes out of sync. It doesn’t mean much, but it’s still best to be tested.
Good luck on your Journey. Know I will be praying for you!!

Hi Danielle, Did they say it was a echo stress test? If so, it is no big deal. An echo stress test you just lay on a table on your side getting basically an ultrasound of your heart rhythms. I had to have this done to get cardiac clearance as my EKG at my PCP's office was slightly abnormal. When the cardiologist said I needed this I worried that I would be running on a treadmill since that is the only kind of stress test that I knew of. Relax, deep breaths and good luck on your upcoming surgery. I'm scheduled for 8/25/08 pending insurance approval.

Wendy,
I am not sure what type of stress test for sure....they didn't really say. But I had a slight abnormality on my EKG as well....maybe I'll be as lucky as you.
Good luck with getting your approvals! That can be such a pain....
We'll be surgery buddies -- both in August...mine is for 8/11 -- pending my stress test results!!!
Good luck and keep in touch,
Danielle

DAnielle, try to remember that things happen for a reason. If something is there you found out before it caused any problems. Most likely it'll be fine.My cardiologist had me get the ultrasound done just to be safe since he said this surgery is a medium risk procedure.I passed all my tests & had to tell my hubby heart was very healthy with no blockages so he's stuck with me lol.Good luck
Danielle,
Please try and relax. I have had three surgeries and each and every one had an abnormal EKG. One I had the EKG on a Thursday and was scheduled for surgery on the following Tuesday. I had to do an echo cardicram (sp?) and nuclear stress test. Each result proved fine, I just don't test well on the EKG.
I have had two nuclear stress tests and the "stress" part for me was the getting it done. You will be fine, you want them to clear you 100% before you have the surgery.
If you have any questions please feel free to pm me.
