Nannette, I would love to be there.  Can you tell me if it's mostly RNY patients or are there banded patients as well?

I am also in Toms River and was wondering if this is the closest WLS support group meeting.  I had DS and just moved to the area from PA and am interested in joining a support group, would I be welcome since I am a DSer?

Hey Diania -- as Ray as already said, of course you're welcome to join us.  We are the OCWLS Support Group and meet twice per month, first in Toms River on the first Friday of each month at Community Medical Center, Aud A at 7pm, and the second time on the third Monday of each month in Lakewood at Kimbal Medical's Center for Healthy Living, 198 Prospect St - also at 7pm.

As for DS, since NJ insurance doesn't normally approve DS, we don't have too many, but we do have one -- Krista lives in Forked River and is about 5 years post op.  Since she has three small children, she doesn't usually get to many meetings, but I'm sure she'll show up sooner or later.  I could also put the two of you in touch with each other too.  In any case, I hope that you'll come to our meetings -- you still have many of the issues that all WLS patients have, regardless of the type of surgery.  We are mostly RNY'ers, than lapbanders, one DS and we even have one vertical gastro sleeve patient!

Hope to meet you soon.
Hugs,
Nannette

Cool, thanks Nanette.  I would love to meet up and contact Krista, I too have 3 small kids but my DH would watch them so I can come, I think it is important for me to join a support group, not that I am having issues but it is important, and with just moving here, I need to meet people.

I am going to try like hell to make the one next week, is it?  Do I need to pre-register or just show up?

Hey Diana -- no need to pre-register -- just show up!  Unfortunately, I will not be attendign the next meeting in Toms River on August 1st as I am leaving for Atlanta that day for the weekend, but one of our old-timers, Jack Martin, will be facilitating the meeting in my absence.  Plus, we usually have a great turn out in Toms River, larger than in Lakewood, so it certainly will be worth your time.

As for meeting people in the area, pm me, and I'll give you some info on a local women's social organization that I am part of -- many of my buddies in this group are also WLS -- though not the majority - we have a great time and lots of fun!

Hope to meet you soon.
