I'm new here and just beginning process.  Anyone have experience with Horizon BCBS of NJ PPO?  My husband is a public employee and part of the NJPERS?  Any problems with insurance you've dealt with?

I have BCBS and I had no problems with them.  Just do everything they ask of you.   It took me   9 months of doing everything thing they asked me to do and taking every test that I was asked  to take, to get approved  (everyone is different).    Get ready to play the "GETTING APPROVED GAME".  Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I did and it took me 3 months from start to fini**** all depends on your doctor and their familiarity with the system.

I have Horizon BC&BS of NJ PPO, and everything was covered. However that doesn't mean you will be 100% covered too. It depends on the doctor, the hospital, and what type of benifits within your plan. Horizon BC&BS of NJ PPO comes in many flavors (sorry for the bad choice of words), so make sure you ask. The doctor you decide to go with should have a staff who is knowledgable enough to know. Mine was. And it took less almost a month to be approved

Mine took 2 1/2 years because I had to sue them to get them to change their policy.  Much depends on the type of surgery you're looking for.    Pick a type you think you can live long term with, and then search for the best surgeon in that specialty.         I have NJ BC/BS PPO, now called Direct 15.   My follow up tests, lab tests, and such are covered 100% if ordered by my PCP who's in network.  My follow up surgeon visits are covered at 70% because he's out of network.  I don't let him order tests and the like.  He tells me what he wants, and I have my PCP order them to have them fully covered.     I'm a state employee.    good Luck!     Mary C

Thanks again for all the replies!  My surgeon will be Dr. Bertha in Florham Park (who is a participating doctor in my plan) and from what I gathered from the seminar and speaking with his insurance specialists I am hoping everything will go smoothly.  Just had my pscyh. and nutrition yesterday and will see the doctor the week of the 23rd.  Keep your figures crossed for me!

Our insurance is Horizon BCBS also (NJ Direct 15) and it took them less than a week to approve me (I did the whole nutritionist thing for 8 months last year, so that was already out of the way), Basically sent them everything under the sun related to my weight issues and everything went very smoothly. Follow-ups and the metabolic doctor bills are covered at 70%, so I'm not getting everything scot free, but for the great success I've had and the outstanding service I've received, I don't mind chipping in my fair share of the fees. Best of luck to you!!!
