I love Dr. Bertha.  He also now operates at St. Peter's.  St. Clare's is a great hospital.  I was very pleased with my experience there.

I am using Dr. Bertha - I go on the 24th to Morristown.  We just went to the pre-op class last week and my husband loved him too!  He is very straight-forward and no-nonsense, which is why we love him. Jen

I do not know who your insurance company is but I would check with both offices to find out if they plan to drop your insurance anytime soon.  Alot of doctors are dropping some insurance companies.  It might save you some time and having to start over again! My doctor is Dr. Garrison (now in the same office with Dr. Bertha).  Personally, I did not care for Dr. Bertha but he's a good surgeon and used by many people on this site. Good Luck!

We have several people in our support group that have used both surgeons -- from all reports, Schmidt really rocks!  His overall support and office staff seem to be a bet better that Bertha's! Both are good surgeons.  Good luck. Hugs, Nannette

See...I told you...good things about both! Since you will have an ongoing relationship with this man and with his office I suggest to go with the doctor you feel most comfortable with and with the office which is the most responsive to you! Dr Mike

I am a patient of Dr Bertha and I feel that he is a terrific surgeon and is both caring and informative. I have heard a lot of good things about Schmidt as well as I go to support group meetings in Ocean County and there are plenty of people that have used both doctors and been successful. It is really who you are most comfortable with. Both doctors have good programs before and after surgery to give support and answer questions and issues. Both have done some of the most of these types of surgeries ... so its whoever YOU feel most comfortable with. Good Luck with your decision. Michael Rosen

I used Dr. Schmidt for my  RNY. He was and still is a great doctor. My present doctor has nothing but praises for his work. He's a very good doctor.

Hackensack Hospital is amazing. I love that place. Great attention and care all the way around. They did ALOT of research just to make you comforitable. And that was back in 2000. I can imagine that it only got better with time, although I don't see where they could have approved upon much. I went there for my RNY and 2 plastics. Can't say enough about the place.
