DON'T CANCEL!!!!  My insurance company made me do a 6 month supervised diet regimen with my primary care doctor before they would approve me.  I went to the doctor for my 1st visit in December, weighing 248.  Within the next 6 months I went down 2 pounds and back up again....Long of the short of it is....they don't care!!!!  I got my surgery approved last friday and I am scheduled for surgery in August!   Just stick to the appts, try your best and don't worry so much about what the scale says...just feel like you are giving it some effort!!!!  After all, if we could lose weight on our own, who would need WLS????  good luck.

Don't cancel...but start thinking about WHY you are not following what you are supposed to... I had a long history of dieting attempts, but the day I first met with my surgeon....he said you go on a 1200 calorie diet TODAY...not tomorrow...not next Monday. I was going to put it off, but I realized every day I delayed was one day longer from my goal. One thing that might make it easier now...I started in April & I ate so many berries...I was lucky because it was spring and into summer....blackberries, blueberries, strawberries, and rasberries... added to my Dannon Fit & Light Yogurt... losing weight is hard work and the surgery is not a breeze...it is a tool...and you have to get into the mindset so when you get to surgery- you continue to suceed... You can do this....and admitting it is hard is ok...it is so human.....so do not give up...go to the appt. and get your butt on track!!! Do not cancel!!! I tracked every morsel I ate and DRANK (in ounces) on fitday.com for free. I bought a really good small scale to weigh meat portions... It really helped me... Good luck!!! Bernadette

I'm delighted to see how many of you are recognizing the impact that your emotional life can have on your weight  problem. Sadly most WLS patients never go to either support groups or individual counseling.  In my judgment this is a mistake.  In my case, we specialize in after care as well as evaluations but that is not always the case. Remember, WLS is a powerful tool, if you rely on it alone you will have initial success for sure but may not succeed in the long run.  If you use it as a tool but seek help to change yourself you will be thin forever.....but the struggle goes on. Since I run support groups for patients after their surgeries I do not see WLS patients individually also since it would change the dynamic in the group but several of my associates do.  It would be my please to help connect you.  We can help no matter where you went for your initial eval. I hope this didn't sound like an advertisement... Dr. Mike
