GP Dr. rec?
Hi!
I'm sort of looking for a new GP doctor. I don't go very much, but I'm mostly healthy, so I don't have a lot of other doctors and I'm not on any meds. But my current doc has, I believe, no experience at all with post-op bariatric patients. I could use one who has experience in this arena and also who (although that's down the road a long ways) can get through the plastic surgery part of things as well.
I'm in Middlesex county, but close to Somerset and Union counties. Any recs greatly appreciated.
TIA!
Ruth
Hi Ruth,
Welcome to the OH!!! I work in Middlesex County. I work 8:00-4:30 Mon-Fri. I walk every afternoon, my boss lets me transfer the phones to my cell phone. If you would like to walk with me we can team up. I was wondering what Insurance you have, if you call them they can give you a list of GP's in your area. Then you can call each one, and see who has knowledge of bariatric surgery. Just a suggestion. Anyway Good-Luck on your surgery. I will be praying for you. Also let me know when your up to walking with me.
Hi Melissa, thanks for your reply. I know I can get a list of docs from insurance (BC/BS NJ btw) and all that, but I was hoping to get a recommendation from a real person, so I wouldn't just be walking in blind.
Speaking of walking, where in Middlesex County do you walk? How long/far? Boss sounds cool. I live in Piscataway, but work in Union County. I'm afraid with a f/t job and two kids, most of my walking is going to have to be done either early in the am or late in the evening. Am suddenly really wanting a Wii...
Hi Ruth, Sorry I don't know any GP's in your area. I walk around the building I work in, If I walk around it for about an hour I am walking a total of 2 miles a day, it is a long building. Yes, my boss is really cool!!! Well I guess are schedules won't allow us to walk together, but I do hope that everything works out for you, Good-Luck!!!!
Hi Ruth,
Drs. Brian and Thomas Cassidy are absolutely fantastic!! I use Tom myself but have seen both of them on any number of occasions. My whole family uses them, me, hubby and my 19 and 21 year old sons. They have a lot of experience following Bariatric patients and have a goodly number of post op patients in their practice. I highly recommend them. Tom was also very helpful with my recent plastic surgery. He wrote a letter of support for the insurance company for me and gave me my clearances prior to surgery.
732-767-3130. They are located on Park Avenue in Edison. If you do decide to use them please give a call and make an appointment right away. You will generally have to wait a few weeks for a "first" appointment because they spend so much time with you that they don't take a lot of new patient appointments in any one day.

Hi'
Just wanted to say thanks for the reference. My current GP is, well, words I can't use in mixed company. I have used him for over 10 years and I finally realized that he was never going to help me with losing weight. When I talk to him about wls....which I am in the process of doing my 6 month dieting thing for my insurance company, he looks at me like I grew a third eye....Needless to say, I'm keeping him until my surgery, hopefully in October, but then....he is history...This man actually told me that, laughly he said, that if he had his way, he would lock overweight people up and only feed them bread and water...hahahaha...sounds like a keeper, huh? lol In any case, I live about 1/2 mile from your doctors....I will be calling them tomorrow and again...thank you
Cindy
