I want to ask

if anyone has been to Morristown for WLS?  I finally decided on the band and my date is June 24.   I am having it at Morristown (I had a very bad experience there with my daughter in the children's hopsital about 5 years ago).  They were just awful.  But, I am thinking that the same-day surgery area is different from that and hope that it is better.  I live between there and St. Claire's, which had no dates for a while, and I just want to get this show on the road. Dr. Bertha of Florham Park is my surgeon, and so far, I think he is fantastic!  Also - I want to thank all of you who shared your stories with me a while back when I asked how you decided what surgery was best for you!   Jen

Jen,

While I didn’t have the operation at Morristown, I have been going to the Morristown meetings. IMHO Morristown has changed (for the better) over the past few years. I was always a Saint Clare’s fan, but the last two years I needed some “test” done, and Morristown was the only facility that could do it. The staff was extremely courteous, and I had no complaints.

The other thing you have to remember is WHO THE DOCTOR IS. To me it’s the Doctor’s talent that’s important, not the facility it’s done at. I would trust either Doctor to do the operation in a mud hut, off a dirt road, during a rain storm. Stop and think, if Doctor Bertha (and Abkin) didn’t think Morristown was conducive to “their reputation”, would they still operate there?

Have no fear. Good luck, and hope to see you at either the Morristown or Saint Clare meetings !!

Thanks for the reassurance!  Morristown really left me sour towards them, but you are right - Dr. Bertha is amazing and he is the one that matters!   I can't wait to start losing

I don't have surgery experience with MMH but wanted to say that over the past few years I did do EMS in that area and had multiple experiences in multiple areas of the hospital and was almost always very impressed. Pam

Thanks Pam!  It was the children's hospital that was just awful!  At the time, our daughter was about a year and a half old, and the staff there could not draw blood from her!!  There were many other things besides that, but that stands out in my mind.  They pretty much did nothing for her.... long story short is that we ended up being transported to CHOP (Childrens Hospital of Philidelphia) and they had her treated, healthy and diagnosed after about 3 days.  So it was a blessing in disguise, but stressful!

Jen,  I am a little biased here because Dr. Bertha is my surgeon and I too had my surgery done at morristown BUT I do work there.  I am an employee at Morristown who works in the peds dept of radiology as well as the main radiology xray dept.  Sorry that you had such a horrible experience.  I haved worked there now for 2 1/2 years and I wouldn't bring myself or my child (if i had one) any place else.   You are in GREAT hands with Dr. Bertha and Dr.Abkin.  Good Luck with your surgery and maybe I will be the one doing your Upper GI after surgery!  Keep us posted!!
