Hi everyone.....I am new here.  I got my lapband on April 16th by Dr. Jean-Baptiste in Plainfield.  I had to self-pay because Cigna said I had no co-morbidity issues.... He and his staff were wonderful.  I will be getting my fill this week and so far have only lost about 12 lbs.  Hopefully the fill will start me on my way.  Anyway.....I have a bunch of clothing that I would love for someone to have......jeans (barely worn!)....tops, some dressy stuff.  If you want them - just let me know and will send 'em to you for just shipping $$..............I live in Marlboro.  I am 51....happily married....3 girls (1 with special needs)....a wheaton terrier.....and hope to loose my 60 lbs. in a year!  Do you think this is a possible goal?   Nice to meet you.     Karen M.

Karen- Congratulations again! I think 60# in a year is a realistic goal with lapband, depending on where you started at of course. My insurance paid 100% for the hospital but not a penny to the doctors, surgeons, etc. because they were out of network. I ended up paying a boatload! Surgeons aren't cheap!  When you get closer to the 14/16 mark, I'll have a bunch of clothes for you =o) That's the size I stalled at and bought up a huge wardrobe... only to lose more. Now I'm in a 8 or 10! -Janine

My boys are 3 reasons why WLS was right for me! I love my post op miracles =o)

Hi Karen, what a great idea!  We should all start an almost-new clothes swap!  I'm in Freehold and there are a lot of us close to each other.  I know I have a full wardrobe of clothes sized from 14 up through 24 that were barely worn since I go up and down so fast and so often. Michelle

Hi Janine and Michelle.....wow this is so cool!!  I have felt so isolated and then I found this site and you !  I was wondering if there are any support groups or local get togethers?  I have only had my band 3 weeks and I already feel like "okay....now what can I eat"~ (bored of my 4 foods).

I know there is a monthly support group at Centra State Hospital at their Wellness Center.  I haven't been there yet, right now I'm just trying to get through the excitement of my surgery in 2 1/2 weeks!  I've heard it's good, I definitely plan on going.  A local get together is also a great idea! Michelle...you are the best.  I live 5 minutes away and had no idea they even had a bariatric/wls center.  I am waiting to hear back from the nutritionist - I hear the meeting is the 3 or 4 Wed. of each month ~ I appreciate your help.....good luck with your surgery - where are you having it done?  I highly suggest a chaise lounge chair  (like a pool lounger) for comfort.  It is low to the ground, has arms to push up on and I wished I'd found this out on day 2 and not day 4....(someone told me!)...nice to meet you.....karen

Great Idea Karen.  I'm being banded May 30 at NYU Hospital.  My surgeon is the one who did Mohammed Ali's daughter (and he was the one that was covered on my insurance plan!)  The only pain in the ass will be taking the train/bus into the city every few weeks in the beginning.  Oh well, we can always use a day off from work  It works out for me come August because my son is starting college at NYU so I'll take a personal day, get a fill and then take him out to eat (anything to keep my baby close)  He's my oldest so I'm having a hard time adjusting to the idea of him not living at home.  I'm just so glad he'll be close, instead of going up to Syracuse or Boston, which were his other options. Please let me know when you find out when the meetings are, Central State is practically around the corner from me so I will definitely be there! Michelle

hey Michelle.....I am from Manhattan and I would be glad to drive you to your appt. either after surgery or for your 1st fill.. I am GREAT in the city.  Really, truly.  Also, our eldest daughter came home this week from her freshman year at SusquehannaUniv. in Pa.  She did  awesome! We were thrilled that she did not choose a different school - her other choices were 7 or 8 hrs. away.  !!  Where's your son graduating from?  I will let you know when the meetings at the Wellness Center are.....then we can meet and chat.  I live off Dutch Lane.....how 'bout you?    karen
