Thinking of Revision

So I am celebrating my eight year anniversary today and feel like am looking at the girl I was before surgery. I have put a substantial amount of weight on since my surgery more or less so in the past 3 years. I have contacted Dr. Greenbaums office to see if I may qualify for revision. Unfortunately my surgeon ...DR. Colberg... retired about a year after my surgery and never really left me with any direction in which to go.  I have personally avoided this site because of everything that has happened and because I almost feel ashamed that I have put so much weight back on. I'm extremely frustrated with myself and feel as though I have failed. My life has had a lot of failure and this just icings the cake.  If anyone out there can help .... or has any advice for me... please contact me. ~ Mandie

A friend of ours just had a revision to his RNY.  It was done as a scope instead of a surgery.  I guess they went down his throat and made his pouch smaller.  It was considered a day surgery (in/out).  He's feeling fine.   Good luck with your decision.

Hi, wow can I relate to your situation. My first surgery was in 1999 (open RNY). The first two years were good in terms of weight loss and no medical complications. However in the past five or six years I have regained almost all of my weight along with feeling sluggish, tired and out of breath. I'm back to being on medication for high blood pressure and not wanting to look at myself in the mirror. About a year ago I discovered that I'm not alone and that other people have regained following gastric by-pass. As much as I don't like the idea of another surgery, I know that revision is my only chance at leading a healthy lifestyle. It was a real struggle but last week the insurance authorization came through and now I'm scheduled for surgery on June 5th at Princeton Medical Center with Dr. Brolin (anyone with info. to share about either the facility or Dr. Brolin please reply). I think  a good place to start if you are thinking about revision is getting information. I started by talking with a surgeron and getting a referral to Dr. Brolin. Then I met with an endocrinologist to get my blood pressure under control and rule out any medical complications. Next I'm meeting with a nutritionist. I'm trying to do things differently the second time around so that I have lasting results. I wish you much luck and happiness. Heidi

Mandie,

I am way to early out to make to many comments on this subject.  However, I have a very good friend who gained 60+ pounds in the matter of a few months a few years after RNY.  He completely went back to basics and lost that weight and changed his lifestyle once again.  Another friend of mine, when weight started to creep back on, began the 5 day pouch test.  I've had multiple friends who have done the 5 day pouch test with great results - and ALL of them have said it is one of the hardest things to do.  But it helps you get that "tight" feeling back and realzing any bad habits you may have gotten yourself into (to many carbs, to much fat, experimenting with sugar, putting to much condiments on your food adding to hidden calories/fat and also making your food "slide" down into your pouch.

No matter which option you choose, best of luck.  Please stay in touch with this board - it may be difficult to admit your faults - but you've taken the first step.

Pam
