Dr. Bertha ??
Hi All
A question I am wondering in prep for surgery....I am guessing after the surgery the Dr will put me on Short Term Disability...Can anyone tell me what your experience is like regarding this with Dr Bertha? I had posted this question on the regular RNY forum and generally people are saying about a month (4 weeks)..soem are saying 2 but extremely tired...I am assuming that each Dr is different...just trying to gauge on how long I will be out for...hoping long enough so that I am not exhausted at work and just trying to plan financially...
Thank You
Stacey
I assume you are talking about a lap RNY and not an open. Dr. Bertha said after two weeks I could go back to work. I stayed out for three because the third week was New Year's and it made more sense to get the extra rest. You will get tired in the afternoon for about six weeks. Are you able to leave early if you get tired? I am an independent contractor so am unfamiliar with how disability works. You are in great hands with Dr. Bertha. He and his entire staff are wonderful. Every single person I have dealt with has been pleasant and helpful.
Hi Miriam
Thank you for the response...I plan on taking Disability as well...so I guess should estimate a 6 week recovery period before going to work...Im just concerned about going back to soon...adjusting to food and being tired...
What was your diet like for the first month or two? What plan did Dr Bertha put you on??

Dr Bertha and his staff are wonderful to deal with. I took 6 weeks for diability but I could have gone back sooner if I did not get an infection. So you might what to try to get the 6 weeks and then if you feel good you can go back sooner. By the way it was great having the 6 weeks to adjust before going back to work.
You will also have to attend a 4 hour class at Dr. Bertha's office to learn about what to eat after surgery and what to expect. They are all great and ask your questions and they will give you answers.
