Hi Barbra: You have started an incredible journey with a wonderful doctor. I had surgery in December and have had no real complications. I would gladly talk with, offer support, answer any questions and in general be an ear if you need one. I lived in your town for 16 years and now I am in just the next town over if you need anything. I am a nurse at  Saint Peter's and want to tell you that you that will get great care. I was so relieved when Dr Bertha and Dr Abkin started doing WLS theere and I did not have to go to another hospital.  Linda

Hello.  i am in the somerset area and i am on the same path as you.I  have met with only 1 dr i am doing gastric.  i originally wanted lap band but i didnt feel after speaking to my dr that i could obtain my ideal weight goal.  i am really excited.  my dr had poitive feedback on boards and his staff is very nice.  i got the ball rolling quickly and at the first meeting they gave me my projected surgery date of June 2.  i had my appt with the dr 3 weeks ago.  i have since scheduled my appts with my pulmanary dr which i went to today, i now have to see a cardio dr next week and i need to make an appt with a gastro dr and get the blood work and gallbladder x ray.  i also have to do the shrink.  i have BC/BS for insurance and i called and asked if they covered the surgery, they said yes if medically necessary.  the disappointment kind of came when i found out i had to pay for the nutrionist out of pocket.  i think my insurance covers nutrionist but they drs office said i have to pay the $150.  and it has to be paid before the surgery, which isnt bad, but then the shrink charges another $150. they won't call for approval without you seeing one)  i called my insurance and found a loophole in getting that covered.  but the office fee is what got me, $1850.  i asked about paying half and doing a payment plan but was told it was supposed to be paid before the surgery.  i wish i would have known the out of pocket cost before getting so excited, so i would have prepared myself to expect to have to wait until i could get all of the money together.  so that June 2 date looks out the window but i am going to keep paying on it until i get it paid and can get the surgery done.  good luck at your dr's appt wednesday
